"Upon further review, signing Mike Peterson was a sign.

Falcons coach Mike Smith announced Tuesday that linebacker Lofa Tatupu will miss the entire season with a pectoral injury suffered in the weight room last week.

“As you know, Lofa suffered a pectoral injury last week,” Smith said, via the Falcons’ official website. “After further testing, it was determined that he would require a procedure to repair the injury and unfortunately he will miss the entire season.”

Tatupu missed all of last year, amid suspicions he was breaking down physically after knee problems and a string of concussions with Seattle.

He was expected to compete for a starting job with Akeem Dent, but Dent will likely make that one his own, allowing them to use Peterson as a backup as they did last year.

Tatupu signed a two-year deal with a $600,000 signing bonus, which was a significant guarantee for a guy who didn’t play the year before."

Man feel sorry for those birds on losing Lofa. ;)

No Lofa and no more Lofton means our backs + Cam will have field days when we play agianst them.

Wasnt a smart move on the Falcons side for letting a pretty damn good Mike in Lofton go just bc they view him as a two down backers, and then signing an injury prone player to replace him.

i can't imagine the falcons were counting on 16 games for tatupu. the signing, and the timing of it, smelled of "taking a flyer" to see if he could hold up. turns out he couldn't. surely dimitroff and mike smith have a plan B to go to now.

yes good news for us, but sad for Lofa.

That dude in his rookie year was one of the main reason why we lost to the Seahawks in that 2006 NFC Conference Championship game.

You mean that late hit that took out like the only RB we had left on our roster?

I would probably go with the offensive playcalling/execution being terrible. We weren't going to win that game for a number of reasons.

Man, I hate to see this for a number of reasons. First, as a Panther fan, I know how it feels to lose a MLB! Second, when we sweep the Falcons this year, I don't want them having any excuses.

At least he is out early and the team will have time to adjust. Not like he went out in week 2 of the season or anything. I do however wish him a speedy recover. Injuries suck.
