Quick Look Back at Our Season Finale

Many of us have been dissapointed with the lack of additions this offseason. Some have even brought up the disaster vs. the Saints* in week 17. I thought it would be interesting to compare that lineup with our current one.

Starters:

DE: Antwan Applewhite

DE: Greg Hardy

DT: Ogemdi Nwagbuo

DT: Frank Kearse

LB: James Anderson

LB: Jordan Senn

LB: Dan Connor

CB: Chris Gamble

CB: Darius Butler

S: Charles Godfrey

S: Sherrod Martin

Also recording defensive stats:

Brandon Hogan

Thomas Keiser

Jonathan Nelson

Demario Pressley

Eric Norwood

RJ Stanford

So what jumps out at me is 5 of the 11 defensive starters in that game have no shot at starting this year (barring injuries). Sherrod Martin is a 6th guy that could lose his job before the season starts.

As much as we put down Captain, he didn't play in our most embarassing defensive game of the season. So when I compare that lineup to what we have now I can't help but be optomistic.

The critical name missing from that game was Charles Johnson. When I heard Johnson wasn't suiting up for the game I knew we didn't stand a chance in Hell. Given, the Saints** play like sh*t when they're not in a dome, but it was night and day when comparing the defensive effort from the first game at home vs. the last game in New Orleans.

I thought our worst game was against the Titans. All I remember is Cam throwing a pick on a screen pass and us unable to score a single TD....embarrassing

I'm specifically looking at the defense here. We lost to the Titans by 27 and lost to the Saints* by 28 but the Saints* game we gave up over 600 yards of offense. The Titans we gave up 383 which isn't good but not nearly as bad.

giving up nearly 400 yards to a titans offense is pretty god damned bad

    • On the surface all variables to be considered aside obviously I would love to have him. Situationally though this compares to when we acquired Stephon Gilmore. Ramsey will be 31 this fall and Gilmore was 31 when we acquired him. Ultimately it was a moot point because we weren't ready to compete for anything of note and Gilmore went elsewhere. Ultimately I see this playing out the same. As such I cannot envision any scenario where he does not go to a legit playoff contender.
    • Below average? Seriously?? That is wild AF My man we ain't watching the same game... And I'm hard-pressed to believe you're watching the same film coaches are either if that is the take you honestly believe... I've been to almost every home game at BOA over the past 20 years... I've seen a lot of bad QB play over the past 7 years. Anybody that wasn't truly impressed by what Bryce did what the cast-offs he had to work with at the end of last year is delusional. His top 3 weapons were a 34 undrafted guy, a 7th round journeyman, and an UDFA rookie... seriously, what are we doing here??!! Some of these takes are beyond outlandish... You admitted yourself you're comparing Bryce to a guy you didn't even watch but are cherry picking stats for... So go back to your eyeballs and make it simple... how much NFL football have you watched my man?? Bc to me and my eyeball test, Bryce blew it out of the effing water down the stretch. What QBs are you watching playing so much better than him that you feel confident in saying "below average?" If you watched that and came away with anything else, we ain't watching the same thing... But beyond the eyeball test, every advanced metric in the book backs it up also... so again, what are you seeing that no one else is?? You think just anybody is going out there and dueling with Mahomes & Hurts with an almost comical inferior supporting cast and doing that? Whatever, to each their own, but it is wild to pull for a team where so many people feel compelled to crap on your QB after he just pulled maybe the greatest in-season turn around in league history and was playing by any eyeball test (for anyone that has watched an appreciable amount of NFL football) or even the advanced metrics for that matter.
    • You don't talk about TMac's QB that way!
