Why Clausen and Edwards are Panthers

Could we pick up a #5 receiver or a third string qb who would be a improvement over either? We are talking about two who, if they get to play any considerable minutes, then its because of injuries, and we are probably in a great deal of trouble anyway (and would be with any other players who might be picked up). So basically, it doesn't really matter.

Ok. Then why are they here? Why have other hung around painfully longer than most teams generally allow?

You don't believe a guy who drafts players would like to boast about his roster being largely made up of guys he drafted? Sure does sound like he is a good drafter compared to everyone else.

Why do people care so much who we carry as the number 3 QB? They shouldn't.

Most if you hate Jimmy so much that you wanted him banished from Charloite. That is letting your emotions dictate everything, rather than see the obvious.

1. Knows the play book

2. Is dirt cheap

3. QB training and fm room has great chemistry...why fug with that?

Let that hate go for this guy who won't even dress and accept him being here for what it really is....an irrelevant non-event.

My question is what is the point of having a 53 man roster if you can't dress them all on gameday. Definitely the dumbest rule in the NFL.

Agreed, it does seem like a useless rule. But maybe the extra players are to give a team more people to practice with, and to give the coaches more roster options, ie if he wants more linemen against one team, and more receivers against another.

Perhaps we should cut off Clausen's head, and stick it on a Pike in front of BOA stadium, as a warning to all other Hurney draft picks. :)

Not THE reason...but potentially a reason.

I think Hurney takes great pride in being able to boast the Panthers have more drafted players on their roster than team X. Yeah, team X may win more games...but it is something Carolina has hung their hat on and bragged about to a degree in recent years.

I don't believe Hurney is dumb enough to bring the Panthers team down as a whole,at the expense of losing his job, just to have bragging rights. My feeling is that JR wanted us to obtain Edwards and that is one reason he's hung on longer that most players would have.

It's a 53 man roster. They should be able to dress all 53 on gameday. Who even came up with that rule anyways?

I have no clue why AE is still with us. I think we could have used it on just about any other player and gotten more service out of him.

Clausen is a different story. The odds that we keep Chudz a third season is probably slim to none. Especially if we do well. Anderson is free agent after this season. If I am Chudz I am taking Anderson with me. They were together in Cleveland when Anderson made the pro-bowl and in SD and here in Carolina. Anderson probably knows this system better than any QB in the league including Cam.

Clausen will be more mature and confident in himself and this offense. Next year as back-up to Cam. So my take is we kept Clausen cause he will most likely be our #2 in 2013.

Ellison was cut after 1 season(3rd round pick)

http://en.wikipedia....Atiyyah_Ellison

Everette Brown was cut after 2 seasons(traded a 1st for him)

http://en.wikipedia..../Everette_Brown

I'm not doing any more wiki's but Norwood was a 4th round pick in 2010 and now gone after 2 years.

Rashard Butler 3rd round pick cut after 1 year.

Eric Shelton a 2nd round pick was cut after 2 years.

Corvey Irvin 3rd round pick cut after 1-2 years

No other top 4 round pick aside from Colbert or Jarrett were held on for too long.

Theres plenty more late round picks who were cut after 1 or 2 years. Clausen and Edwards are barely hanging onto the final spot on the depth chart at their respective positions are only in year 2 with Rivera.

In summary as you can Hurney is not afraid to admit failure in his drafts and will cut his losses after 2 years maximum in all cases not including Edwards and Clausen. They will likely be cut after their 3rd year or show improvement one.

this post kind of makes the reason in the OP moot.

And doesn't remotely fit the offense....and has no future here. You wouldn't argue against those would you?

3rd QB spot should be a prospect they are working on and grooming ....if Cam breaks his leg that 3rd QB spot matters bc Anderson is nothing more than a washedup playbook coach. Which is fine, Anderson serves a legit purpose.

OP wasn't suggested as the reason...

Again, you don't think Hurney likes to keep enough guys to boast Carolina has more drafted players making up their roster than any team in the NFL.

....yeah, he can actually make some cuts and part with some and still make an effort to keep that ratio by hanging on too long to guys.

That being a goal doesn't imply he hasn't cut a single drafted player.

    • lol, that second part is quite literally one of the dumbest things ever. Having or not having guaranteed contracts has absolutely nothing to do with how much these billionaires have to pay.  Because there is a hard cap and a minimum cap spend requirement, and teams either use their cap or roll it over to use it all the next year, so the owners have to pay the same amount of money in the end no matter what. Having fully guaranteed contracts in the NFL would only hurt salary cap management, and thus would end up screwing over the team and its fan base when teams kiss on signings as they take up cap room that is needed to improve the roster. Look at the Browns with Watson, they gave him the fully guaranteed deal and all it’s doing is sucking up massive cap space now.  If they hadn’t done that, the owner would still be paying the same amount of money each year as that cap space would still be used elsewhere. If you want to argue for fully guaranteed contracts because the players deserve it, that’s an entirely different argument and a fair one to discuss.  But anyone against fully guaranteed deals isn’t doing it to argue for the billionaire owners.

    • Ryabkin could be the steal of the draft, he was a Top 10 pick heading into last season and had a rough year.  Lots of GMs passed on him because of that and his workouts. Pick has really high upside and Svech should be able to translate Rod tearing his arse a new one for making dumb plays since Svech has had several years of it.  🤣😂
