Panthers treat trip like 'bowl game'

"We're staying out there so they have the marshmallows and the graham crackers ready and the bonfire going," Smith said. "Someone has the karaoke machine with 'Kumbaya' all ready to go and we're just going to sleep in sleeping bags ... and have a good old time."

Man, what is Smitty talking about.

Best part of the article

Smith, for one, is taking a lighthearted approach to what he jokingly refers to as "camping out."

Rivera said he likes that players aren't complaining about the move because it shows some mental toughness and dedication to the task at hand, which is winning the season opener.

"We can easily accept (the move) and say it's a reason why or we can say it's the reason because," Rivera said. "That's the way I look at it. That's my whole point. I'm going to leave it at that."

"We scouted a few places in the Tampa area and IMG made the most sense," Hurney said. "The facility offers the privacy and infrastructure that we need to prepare for the season opener."

I love it. I think a great way to stregthen a team is to keep putting them in unfamiliar enviroments. Pretty soo they'll see the only thing constant through the season is their teamates and coaching staff. They will learn to lean on one another and rely on one another. it also helps them focus on the game rather than where they are giving them a more adaptive mindtset.

That is actually a damn good idea. Road season openers....."Road trip!!!"

It would tie up the final team camaraderie.

i was thinking just in tampa and at IMG, but yeah, that would work.

i try to go down to sarasota for a week every year and it would be cool to time it with their trip and the game there. probably a better environment there than a lot of places they could go. it would be a good way to start the season, though.

    • You don’t even need 1b because Tepper is the only one foolish enough to wheel that deal.    Player wise? Jake’s elbow. JR and Pep getting sideways, no Carruth, Cam’s shoulder, Luke’s concussions, it would be a long list of stuff. You can take it down to certain plays in games. Fox chasing 2 point conversions in the SB would be on my list. RMJr slipping at the end of that same game was not helpful.
    • Ultimately this just amounts to heavy revisionist history. I mean you aren't talking to someone that just popped out the womb a week ago. I was here all throughout the predraft process. The overwhelming majority of the fanbase felt like this was a fine situation and the best situation for a rookie QB to go to compared to Houston for example. The hype for Young and our "rockstar" staff was off the charts. No one could dare speak cautious skepticism of his abilities or they would be neg repped into oblivion. Only after he had one of statistical worst rookie seasons of the last 25 years did we get this narrative now that his rookie season actually shouldn't count. Complete malarkey if you ask me.
    • On the field? Since I guess it qualifies as multiple instances it might not count, but have the damn refs throw some flags on illegal hits to Cam's head in SB50. If that doesn't count, 1A. Cotchery caught it 1B. Kasey keeps that kickoff inbounds. Off the field? 1A. Team is sold to anyone but Tepper 1B. We have the patience not to mortgage the franchise on that Bryce trade. Stroudwpuldve been the better pick but he's not worth it either.
