It will never be the focal point of an offense, but it has more staying power than the wildcat. The main reason it had never caught on in the NFL before because there weren't any QBs capable of running it in the NFL. Most of the truly mobile QBs in college didn't have elite arm talent to cut it in the NFL. And then when you did have guys like that who were mobile and could fling it, they didn't have the size that would let a coach or GM feel comfortable in having a handful of designed QB runs a game. Cam fits both those requirements.

The Bucs did a good job of stopping it because they sold out to stop the run, and if we didn't have protection issues, we would've killed them in the air like the Giants did.

One things for sure though, you can't stop it with just your DE's.

it's a keeper. far too dangerous, esp. with the right QB and offense running it.

It's here for years to come, just because of it's versitility. With the right QB, it's a plan that works.

You make a point, but I think what killed our read option the most was the fact that our oline just didn't feel like blocking that game.

Also re: the Bucs game, JStew is the best back at running the read option. It's a power running look. Even on Cam's big run against the Saints we had Tolbert on the read option with DWill behind Cam for the pitch option.

ATL killed us for years with it.

The reason why it won't be figured out is because hats have to get on hats. The play is set up to where they can't overload the option side with extra men, because the offense can just check out of the play and hurt you. Then, the blocking is set up to get to the second level as quickly as possible. As long as your OL knows their assignments and make the blocks, the play is there regardless of what the defense does. The only way to contain it is to be more athletic on defense...and, well...look at our fuging backfield. As long as we make the blocks, the play will always be there, by design.
