Are PSL's a Catch 22?

I don't believe JR when he says he cares about football, winning, or the fans. All he cares about is making a profit and PSLs are just an easier way for him to accomplish this. No need to worry about fielding a competent team if the PSLs are going to be sold every season regardless. The only thing he's worried about is maintaining the status quo. He quit playing football over not getting a $1000 raise. He's not a football enthusiast, he's a restaurant owner. What does he care about success on the field? All he cares about is success in his bank account. The man is completely fraudulent.

Yes, and that's why we the fans are suckers. We're forking over our funds (a significant amount of $ for many) and giving it to a fat cat who sees us as nothing more than a resource to accomplish his ends. JR is, first and foremost and like all owners, a business man. We are his customers, and we have paid for a product that has been inferior for most of 17 years. His loyalty to us only extends as far as our wallets. And the psl owners are forced customers. Yes you can sell your psl/ticktets, but then someone else will be forced to pay or sell. I wish all psl owners would dump them and force ownership to deal with business reality for most types of businesses out there- either you give me something I want to pay for and at a price I'm willing to pay or I don't pay you anything at all.

As one of the aforementioned suckers.... I will unequivocally answer "Yes" to the question at hand.

Now, as hindsight usually works, had I known tickets would be available to purchase for virtually every game on every street corner surrounding the stadium at a reduced rate, I would have never made the investment. Who cares about sitting in the same seat every game? Who cares about being at every game?

I'd much rather watch from my couch, which I do more often now. I attended 3 games last season and have yet to decide about which I might attend this season. I'll dump the tickets in a second if someone wants them for a price. This is likely my last year with the PSLs and I wrote the financial impact off years ago, so it matters little if I simply refuse to renew or sell them back to the organization at a significantly reduced rate.

There are those who will criticize me for owning the seats and not attending... but you know what- I really don't care anymore. My wife and I attended every game we could for 15 years. She missed 3 games and I missed 5 or 6 over those years. So, for those about to throw darts because I don't use my seats- blow me. The PSL's were advertised and touted as an investment. If that's the case, I usually bail out of bad investments.

The Panthers have NEVER advertised or promoted PSLs as an "investment."

PSL owners are not forced anything. We all went into this (or should have) with eyes wide open.

BTW - the Panthers are not the only NFL team with PSLs or something similar. And face it, without the original PSL system, there wouldn't be a team, period.

I realize that, but as long as psls continue to float around out there someone will be forced to pay or lose their license. I think it would work out to everyone's advantage if everyone would simply allow their licenses to be expire. I know it won't happen, but it would be a serious kick in the junk to ownership if everyone did that.

PSLs are a complete ripoff. You're forced to buy in every year, no matter how bad the product is, or you lose your investment completely. JR used them to fund the team but at the end of the day the billion dollar net worth of the Carolina Panthers is still his, PSL owners aren't getting a piece of that. They're only getting a bill each year.

JR is a very smart businessman and basically duped people that were excited about getting a football team into making a poor investment.

    • Yeah and I am doubtful he can offer that consistently. I don’t have many years left at my age and in my view we have wasted two and this whole exercise with him was always a three year minimum.  I am out on that with a guy I don’t believe in, and never believed in, it has sucked. To me it is a costly detour off the right track. Years.    But I am not so rigid that I can’t see excellence. He needs to display it though, consistently before I change my outlook.
    • No, when I said rage, I meant rage, which only applies to certain fans on this board. Your timeline of trying to assess whether he is the future or not is really tied to the discussions surrounding his second contract. If this team is going to commit to some monster contract while he has shown nothing but glimpses of brilliance would be deservedly worrisome, so the clock is genuinely ticking for him to settle into something resembling his final form. Perhaps a best case scenario is that he plays well, the team succeeds, but he does so with a more limited role that makes the rest of the league view him as a game manager, and his second contract value reflects that. Then he continues to improve and becomes a bargain comparatively while not handicapping the team around him, and we enter an era of consistent championship competitiveness that the fanbase has craved for decades and has never really experienced before. But that requires many, many things to go right and for Bryce himself to facilitate that if he ends up being the quarterback of the future.
    • Exactly. And the flame throwers as well, get location benefits from not going all out. But they have it in reserve.  Not sure how much Greg had but he was an artist.  There was a YouTube I came across last year or maybe even 2023 and I don’t how to even find now but it had two NFL QBs I want say one was Carr from the Raiders but I don’t really remember  The point of it is they stood side by side throwing identical distances to identical targets. Radar gun was used.  They threw the normal effort (not all out) and it was measured etc. Then they were asked to throw their ‘fastball’. They were missing and most often they were missing high. It demonstrated the same principle.    edit: and applying that to arm strength, give me the guy that doesn’t need max effort to have good velocity. The margins are so narrow with less velocity in tne NFL the defenders can Close on it and this is a league where they value down to the 100th of a second level. It is that tight
