PFF stats for you guys to mull over

While these stats can be very informative they all need to be viewed in the proper context and should probably be compared against re-watching the games if you can stomach to do so.

People say our o-line is the problem.1 guess on who the worst o-line in football was last year...

Kudos to anyone who said the super bowl champ Giants.

So far this year our o-line has out-performed the 2 teams we lost to and the 1 team we beat is barley ranked above ours.

Heres your top 16 4-3 DE's in Pass rushing productivity(total pressures divided by number of snaps with a 50% of total snaps played qualifier)

Only 3 teams have 2 players inside the top 20. We are the only team to have 3 inside the whole list(list ends at 43 due to the 50% snaps played qualifier plus theirs only 19 teams employing the 4-3 50% of the time on passing downs)

Run stop percentage.-once again 50% snap qualifier against run plays.

Hardy ranks # 2 of 26

Johnson is ranked # 11 of 26

No other panther is ranked because only these 2 have been in on 50% of run plays.

Pass rush productivity with same qualifiers for 4-3 DT'S

Dwan is 4th of 30

Ron is 14th of 30

Run stop perenctange with same qualifiers

Ron is 20th of 26

Dwan is 21st of 26

Linebacker play

Tackling efficiency(number of tackles attempted per miss)

Eh nevermind...not holding back and will update when PFF gets this fixed.

In the interim here's this

Inside Linebackers Run stop percentage(they don't separate 3-4 from 4-3 inside backers)

Beason is 31st out of 44 with a 25% run snap play percentage

21st of 28 when you up it to 50% run snap play percentage

4-3 OLB run stop percentage

James Anderson is 9th of 36 on 25% run snap percentage 6th of 24 at 50%

Keuchly is 25th of 36 on 255 run snap percentage 18th of 24 at 50%

When in coverage

Anderson has allowed 15 of 17 targets to be completed for 141 yards with 99 coming after the catch

Keuchly has allowed 7 of 8 targets to be completed for 59 yards with 54 coming after the catch

6 OLB in the NFL have allowed a TD- we are not in this category thankfully

Anderson has allowed the 2nd most yards after catch and Kuechly 8th...To be fair only us and the Giants have played 3 games yet. But its very reasonable to assume this means they are getting crushed on fuging screen plays and this needs to stop.

Cornerback play...This stat is called yards allowed per play in snap coverage. 60% snap qualifier(higher percentage to try to eliminate nickel corners)

Gamble is 8th of 40 Gamble has allowed 1 TD

Norman is 28th of 40 Norman has not allowed a TD

Safety play

Nakumara has played 114 snaps in coverage. He's been thrown at 1 time and it was a completion for 21 yards.

Godfrey has played has played 114 snaps as well. He has allowed 7 catches on nine targets for 54 yards. He has also allowed 2 TD's and has 1 pick 6.

I'll do offense later..this is more labor intensive than it seems.

I did not cherry pick any stats to make anyone player look better than the others. Hardy was the biggest pleasant surprise for me.

Unfortunately our weakest corp is still the same one from last year: linebackers. Davis isn't out there for enough snaps to improve the unit, Beason is still struggling to get back to form (though he should improve through the season) and Kuechly is going through the typical rookie struggles (though this should improve as well.)

For a defense as heavily dependent on the linebackers as ours that is going to be troublesome, but any improvement through the year should be immediately evident in the defense as a whole.

      Either way there's some tough teams on the schedule this year, on paper anyways.

      Same. I would prefer a MNF game earlier in the season. As if more likely has some significance in case things go south this season. If we perform well enough we could even get another game forced to a Sunday night spot later in the season.

      Wanted to jump into this thread. Although I do not post anymore I do look in as there are a few old friends around. Loved hearing some of the names you mentioned.  Another  oldie is NanceUSMC.  He is the one who got me here from the old Observer forum.  Good guy and smart football guy. I have learned a lot from a lot of good Huddlers over the years, Over time. we have sadly lost a few who left this earth too soon.  Anyone who know of someone, it would be nice to try to make a list.  One of the more recent, CosmoGirl,  was someone that kind of hit hard.  Life sucks sometimes. Some of the best times were when we had our own tailgate and could meet up in person.  I think it made us better. Several dedicated volunteers, lead by LiverMush, started setting things up in the wee hours of each gameday morning.  Don't know all those regulars but I remember JakeFlake was one.  For you newbies...each game,  a Huddler (or a group) sponsored the food for each tailgate.  Eating was free but a donation was asked for.  At the end of the year those donations were used to buy bicycles for Toys for Tots.  Over the years Huddlers bought a lot of new bikes for kids for Christmas.  (I am guessing a couple of hundred each year.)  We had a good time getting together, got to make friends in person, and then got to feel like you were doing something good. It was truly a community. I got to meet Dan Morgan at one of our tailgates...he brought pizza from his restaurant.  How many of you remember that?  Glad the restaurant did not make it....lol. Not only have people changed, and come and gone.....but the entire nature and purpose has changed. Nothing lasts forever and we move on but we still like to think about good times. Same reason we take pictures. Want to ask a question I have not seen anyone else mention......who remembers    "The Couch" ?  We have argued, laughed, lived the ups and downs of football and dealt with a little real life along the way.  A thanks to  the Mods who keep this going.  I am sure they sacrifice a lot of their time out of love for the forum and the Panthers. Take care my friends and be well.  I will close with my new favorite quote which I think is greatly needed in these difficult times.
