Chris Gamble playing well..

Chris Gamble leads all cornerbacks in yards allowed per snap in coverage at just 0.45. Prince Amukamara (0.48) 2nd & Champ Bailey (0.67) 3rd

Gamble has been quietly doing pretty well in coverage for a while (except for that year where he just forgot to give a poo near the end). But like any stat there's context here that needs to be kept in mind. Gamble is our best corner but the rabble across from him has been so bad that teams just haven't needed to throw at him.

So yes he is better than we give him credit for, by a large margin, but he's also not as good as that stat indicates. IMO at least.

As everyone has mentioned, the opposite corners are a big reason QBs look elsewhere to throw.

If we had better corners then Gamble would see more action and get beat more but he'd also get more chances to make interceptions.

Gamble is definitely a great piece to have for this defense.

And last year it was because Captain munnerlyn was across from him. How many years any row am i gonna have to here that its becuz whoever is playin on the other side from him is that bad? Gamble is just that good to me.

i don't think anybody is arguing that gamble is a bad corner. i'm certainly not and i'm the first to throw that PFF article from last year showing how badly quarterbacks fared when throwing at gamble in the face of opposing fans who step out of line.

he shuts down his side of the field, no question. people who actually follow the NFL know that he's the best kept secret around. it sucks that there's kind of a drop off from there but norman has the right attitude and he's growing fast.

    • The term you're looking for is "malinger(ed)", and he didn't.  I'm not sure why Panthers fans act like jaded ex girlfriends.  The dude is clearly injury prone as his time in San Fransico also proves. It's not like he got to San Fran and stopped having problems.
    • My long and rambling post:   The guy is all heart, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he came back even better next year. He’s exactly the guy you lock up. The money won’t ever change the way he plays.  It was a big fumble, but what 1,000 yard back fumbles once in an entire season?  Pride. This team is FINALLY seeing guys who obviously take the game very seriously. Hunt, Chuba, Thielen, Brown, Horn (CB), Coker, Bryce (IMHO). Bye bye, Spider-Man. I don’t see these dudes being OK with teammates half-assing practice or in games. I can see Brown and Horn coming over to talk to somebody.  Good team? Ummm, maybe, but will still likely lose more close games than they win unless this last draft turns in to LOB part 2. That’s a stretch.  Pretty good/decent team. Yes. They finished the season as a pretty good team. I know I sound like a broken record harping back to it, but going in to ATL and putting a 40 burger on them en route to an OT win. A bad Panthers team would have had their brakes beaten off. We’ve seen it.  Rose colored glasses on and bonging a 40 of hopium: There are watershed moments that occur that change the course of franchises, both good and bad. If Fox doesn’t pull Rodney at halftime, the epic journey that was 2003 never happens. On the negative side, Cam taking that one hit from Watt was the end of any and all Panthers relevancy and we’ve been the biggest losers in all of pro sports as a result. Watershed moments. LOB draft. Vinny goes down and the goat is born.  Will the ATL game be the spark that this franchise has desperately needed? Could it be that they hit the mega million jackpot with Princley and Scourton as eat QBs for breakfast? Sure would be nice having 2 all-pro edge guys on the cheap for the next 4 years.  A lot of unknowns, but at least it actually feels  fun again.
    • Ok LT and Petersen are a cut above everyone else to me cmc and Faulk are interchangeable on this list.  though Faulk was better career wise
