Be Careful What You Wish For...

Well, you guys got what you wanted, Hurney out. But how will this benefit Carolina? Chances are, it may not. The best GM's in the league are already locked down by other teams. The available GM's are available for a reason. A new GM could come in and completly wreck this roster like Seifert did to it in 2001. I have mixed feelings about Hurney being fired. Your Thoughts?

Hurney was the least of this teams' problems. This could have waited until the end of the season. As long as Rivera is in charge and he's letting Chud call the plays on offense, we are still going to suck. I don't see how this is going to help anything this year.

I think Hurney should go. I just don't see what good it does now.

I question the timing of the move. I do not question the move itself.

There are plenty of problems here that Hurney didn't cause. But there are plenty that land his lap as well.

We have shown an utter inability to build a roster for years now - stacking talent in odd places and ignoring / misplacing it elsewhere. How long have we been screaming about putting WR talent opposite Smitty? Or about not having more than one good CB? Or about the Safety position being manned by whoever happened to be around? The list goes on. These are things that go as far up the food chain as you can send them and Hurney was it.

It could always be worse - but that's as much fear of the unknown as anything else. We've been so ineffective for so long that I am no longer ok with the devil I know. Let's see the one I don't.

After hearing CJ's sound bite... I think this was the Wrong move!

Looking at the Rivera hiring from Marty's standpoint. This guy (Rivera) had a pedigree for creating GREAT defenses! This was obviously a huge concern prior to his hiring. I think Marty thought that Rivera was gonna be a great HC... Anybody who's played for Rivera loved him on the D side of the ball...

I think this was the wrong move... But who am I to judge?

Yas' article that I posted here was a Greta read and very insightful... It explained a lot. Hurney being ousted appears to be the wrong move at the moment

Can you guys stop slitting your wrists for 5 minutes and appreciate some good news? "Worst team in the league last 4 years" and you guys are afraid about things getting worse. Newsflash: we're already at rock bottom, guys. What exactly is there to be afraid of? This is good news any way you slice it.

    • Didn't  see this posted (since 2023) but since folks have been posting that you can't judge a draft class for three years (a ridiculous take), I thought I'd post this to see what people thought about the 2023 draft. Unfortunately this may not be the most interesting class to do this with but I do quite like retrospective draft grades. Would appreciate other's takes on this (and other recent) draft classes.   1(1) - Bryce Young QB: I am a bigger Bryce Young apologist than most (maybe all). I like the kid. But there is no way around it: This was a terrible pick. If he had been picked in the 4th or even the 3rd round I would feel pretty good about it. But this was the first overall pick that we gave up two firsts, our best offensive player to get.  GRADE: C -    2(39) - Jonathan Mingo WR: not much to say here here. He was here for two years. His yards per catch are on par with Bryce's yards per pass. Rough stuff. To date he has still never scored a touchdown in the NFL GRADE: F   3(80) - DJ Johnson OLB: a pick I hated as soon as it happened and an example of why the premise of this thread is honestly dumb. This was a bad pick when it happened. Most people knew it.  Then came training camp and he did not look good. Then came the preseason which confirmed what we saw in TC. Then came the season which confirmed what we saw in preseason. To date, he has half a sack in his career. GRADE: F 4 (114) Chandlers Zavala G: Honestly the best pick of this draft which really speaks to how awful this draft is. Other than Bryce, the only pick still on the team. He is mostly average or below average depth which in round 4 is not terrible. But he had a pff score of 43.5 and though I think people have unrealistic expectations for draft picks, I still would want a little more from a fourth round pick GRADE: C+   5 (145) - Jammie Robinson S: I liked the pick when it happened but ended up being a disappointment. He logged 1 tackle with the falcons last year and not enough snaps to get a grade on PFF.  GRADE: F OVERALL DRAFT GRADE: F
