Cam Newton needs real competition.

It bothers me that the guy has been handed this job since day one and hasn't had to fight for a spot just like everyone else on the roster. This guy needs to know he can lose his job if he doesn't perform. This organization up to this point hasn't been serious about challenging him in that way.

I know what his supporters say....it's the play calling, he hasn't had time in the pocket, there's no one opposite Steve Smith...but I digress.

Cam hasn't helped this offensive line at all. He takes to long progressing through his reads, he doesn't hot route on the blitz well, his footwork and indecisiveness in the pocket causes the passing lanes to close. Sometimes it looks like he doesn't know whether to run or pass and by the time he decides he's too late. His ball security in the clutch is atrocious. If he protects the ball better we win the last three games.

I really want the new FO to fix this, whether that's grabbing an established vet in the offseason or drafting a guy early. He needs to feel the pressure to reach his potential and you do that in any business through the realm of competition.

lol....

Cam just needs a team and coaching staff around him. Nothing more. Carolina has implemented the textbook blueprint for what you don't do to a young QB.

Cam surprisingly has had us in almost every game of his career despite it.

LMAO, you think anderson or clausen can run the read option?

One... screw the read option unless you're playing my Gamecocks then it works. Derek Anderson and Clausen aren't even here to provide competition. Bring in some guys that can play, and put him on the hot seat. What so unreasonable about that?

I didn't say cut the guy, I said bring in someone who can play and let them duke it out in training camp next year.....let the best man win.

That makes sense.

hey let's invest and bring in competition to compete against the best player on our team. As young and inexperienced as Cam is....and as much as he has to learn....he IS the best player.

What we need is better lineman, WRs, TEs, S, DTs, etc. Not a better backup QB.

Isn't ESPN the network that fabricated the pay for play scandal while Cam was at Auburn?

Am I the only one who finds it interesting that their entire network, and mainly their network alone, is absolutely hellbent on trying to force the bust label on Cam?

Trying to get some dignity back?

Sorry. Didn't think that was threadworthy and needed to put it somewhere, and since his thread isn't going anywhere, it seemed like a nice spot.

It takes up a roster spot & cap space we could use to fix things that are actually broken on this team.

    • yeah, now it's going to get awkward.  The team circles pay attention to all this stuff.  All the wives and girlfriends see the posts.  They all talk like everyone.  Football is just a normal world outside of the fact they play a game for lots of money.  Gossip travels. They know the Theilen's want out at this point.  Carolina is now the disappointed failed trade location.    So now AT takes sort of an inhouse hit in Carolina IMO
    • Ummm... The dude looked like he was about 180 pounds soaking wet with us (I don't care what his listed weight was/is) - he would have been destroyed in the run game even more than our current and past crappy ILBs. The problem is we primarily play 3-4 or nickel/dime - there is little room on the field for him because he isnt an edge LB blitzer and he can't cover for crap. The only thing he can do kind of well is be an in-the-box safety that can try and beat blockers to the spot because of his athleticism. Washington was able to make him work last year because they used him solely as an in-the-box safety and almost exclusively ran a single high FS. The funny thing is they had good yards/game stats against the pass despite most of their secondary having embarrassingly low PFF grades. Washington was also terrible against the run, which might explain why they gave up so few yards passing.
    • Just get the deal done. We've teased it so much that the Thielen's expect it. Now we run the risk of our veteran WR locker room presence becoming disgruntled. Just take what we can get, make him happy, and get future assets while freeing up snaps for guys who will be here beyond this season.
