Will Cam be our next Steve Smith?

Last year, everybody was loving Cam. Fans of teams not in Charlotte liked him, media liked him, he got endorsements. Now everybody is quick to break him down and hate on him. We got so used to him being a media darling that now that everybody hates on him we get offended. My question is, do you think Cam will be like Steve Smith has been for the last decade? A dominant player that we as panthers fans love to death, but the outside NFL world thinks he's a punk and constantly brings up his past and rags on the guy?

I'm over people liking him. I hope he dominates like Smitty has, takes us to a Superbowl, and everyone on the outside can get bent.

As we transition back to a pro offense we will see Cam get back to the level we saw him at last season.

He did great last season when we ran effectively and when we called real plays. It will take some time getting back to that though

I dont think the outside world sees him as a punk, immature sure, but no punk.... Had a Bears fan calling Cam a bitch cause "he doesnt take ownership of the losses & throws his teammates under the bus". Little ironic a Bears fan calling another QB a bitch...

Id like to see Cam & Keuchly follow Smittys footsteps & not wear another jersey for the duration of their careers...God willing, knock on wood, keep pounding.....

No, Cam will never act like Steve Smith. Cam is too far out there with positive vibes in the real world not dominated by illegitimate sports writers and talkers who are searching so hard for a Cam story that they're making stuff up. "Did you see Cam Newton just quietly walk back to the bench?" WTF I also don't see Cam ever losing his temper as Smitty does and that's a good thing.

Besides, Smitty never had Katy Perry hanging all over him.

Makes you wonder, because in 3-4 years when Cam is no longer under contract or is being tagged, other teams with franchise QB's like Mannings, Brady, Brees, Rogers...they will be getting up there in age, if not retired already. In 3-4 years Cam might be the hottest QB in free agency, esp. if he demands a trade.

It could end up costing carolina too much to keep him. Just have to wait and see how this team builds during Cam's contract years.

WHO CARES. You guys need to leave this board and read TMZ or Parez Hilton if you care so strongly about how people view the players.

Your whole shtick has gotten really old. Contrary to what you may have learned in your first year of grad school, it doesn't make you cool to hang around a group of people that all have similar interests and constantly spit your antithetic one-liners.

    • It’s not new. That particular claim has largely disappeared because it has become untenable, but a few games into his rookie year when the playbook/gameplan/personnel/everything was terrible there was endless claims, posts, even threads made that Bryce Young was physically incapable of throwing the ball 20 yards downfield in the NFL. It was also argued that physically throwing the ball 20 yards in the NFL was somehow different than college. Once he threw the ball 20 yards, the goal posts moved to 30 yards, etc. I’m not going to use the search function for you, the point wasn’t as much that one claim as it was that that was one claim out of many that has made it very difficult to have a reasonable discussion here.
    • I mean, I can get a ball downfield 40 yards.  There would be a couple massive issues with me doing it.   My ball placement would be off the charts bad.  Second, for me to get it 40 yards I'm gonna have to moon it......which would give DBs the opportunity to make plays on balls that wouldn't exist if a better QB were throwing it.  Which is all an exaggerated explanation of the Bryce issue.  To many play the literal game w/ Bryce when it comes defending him.  Every NFL QB likely can loft one up around 50 yards.  Every QB in the NFL can't get a ball 30 yards downfield in the same windows.  Or the same ball placement.  That's the Bryce issue.    But I also think mixed into that is just his QB DNA.    Take a young Brees, it was in his DNA to stress defenses and takes shots.  He would flat out be Delhomme-ish at times.  Which is coverage and assignment altering.  Brees would throw balls into triple coverage 40 yards downfield.  Is that smart? Sometimes it is.  Not because the play gets made but you force the secondary to play honest.
    • Tbf were not going to the superbowl this year so the development of our young wr is invaluable  As a side note 5 of our wr are in their 2nd year or less ( t Mac, Coker, tremayne, horn, x)  It's def a promising youth movement
