Chip Kelly discussion

Recommended Posts

He's definitely a guy that has a strong mind, is constantly organized, and knows how to work players & keep them disciplined... but doing that with 19 & 20 year olds is completely different from fully grown men.

I personally think he'd be good, as long as he runs a pro system, yet keeps his creative mindset. Can't run his Oregon offense here.

Not no, but Hell No.

His success has been based almost totally on a tweaked version of the read option offense that will never work at the NFL level. Never. How will he adjust? Who knows?

You guys love the read option so much??? LOL

Strike one.

He seems almost completely indifferent to what occurs on the defensive side of the ball, so he will have to be coupled with a top defensive guy. Even as we speak, his always suspect defense is getting gashed by USC...This is Chip Kelly's BEST defense at Oregon. They are 35th in the FBS....and this after playing a weak schedule.

Strike two.

The guy has no NFL experience. Zero. NADA. NONE. ZILTCHERINO.

Not as a Head Coach, assistant, player or even ball boy.

Basically you are crossing your fingers and hoping Chip Kelly is Jimmy Johnson. I believe Jimmy Johnson is the only college head coach to move to the NFL and win a Superbowl with no NFL experience. And Johnson went to Dallas after appearing in two national championship games (winning one), in 5 years at Miami. All while running a sophisticated Pro-style offense.

Strike three.

This, this and this.

Has the level of desperation officially reached critical mass to the point there's a coaching dart board and posters are just picking off names a couple times a week?

I'm all aboard the Chip Kelly bandwagon. Found an interesting article that made the case for me. Chip Kelly and the Panthers could revolutionize the NFL

I think what he has done at Oregon is nothing more than incredible. High powered offense and good mind. Then I am reminded of Chudz. The guy is an offensive wiz. Crappy at game time adjustments but an offensive wiz none the less. I like the idea that he uses mathematical statistics to make a decision. College is not the NFL. You give a team a short field they are going to exploit it. Next thing you know you are down 14 points and become one dimensional. In college you can get away with being down 2 or 3 scores and come back. Not so true in the NFL. Each position is filled with those college stars. You aren't playing 3 or 4 good guys you are playing 11 of them.

I will support the team no matter who they hire but I hope Kelly isn't our 1st choice.

    • Bryce has been playing the best ball of his career the last three games IMO. He wasn't the reason we dropped the game in NOLA. Seattle's defense will be his toughest challenge yet this season
    • I'll be at the game Sunday and up until last year I had a perfect attendance record. Now however I have seen us lose to the Chiefs (last year) and the Bills (this year). So we can no longer rely solely on my ability to pound overpriced beers to propel us to a win.
    • I haven't been able to watch Seattle on a dedicated basis but the Seahawks are a much better team by the all accounts: eye test, record and DVOA. Defensively they are sick. Best DVOA in the league first in rushing and second in passing. Offensively their passing game has been on fire this year led by JSN I can easily see this being like the Buffalo game where things just get out of hand for us early, that being said this league really is week to week and Seattle does have the disadvantage of traveling cross country for an early game.  If and big if, the Panthers are able to effectively run the ball and limit the amount of time Seattle's offense has to generate explosive plays we have a path to winning this game.  Seattle fans won't be happy to hear this but bad Darnold is always lurking in the background. He is truly an enigma to root for bc he will have an incredible throw that only a few people can make but then will turn around and throw the most bone headed pick of all time.  I think ultimately we drop this one as ultimately it's human nature to be looking forward to that week 18 game. But man how special would it be to be leaving the stadium on Sunday with a win and a miracle dolphins upset
