I've liked this guy for a while, but I finally got some time off to take a closer look at all the WR prospects this year and I'm even more impressed than I was before. I believe it is critical that this team both protects Cam with an OT or OG and drafts a weapon for Cam. Even though he is rising up many draft boards, hopefully not too far, I'm baffled that Patton doesn't get a mid to late 1st round grade. If I had to rank my top 3 WR in the draft it would be 1) Patterson 2)Patton 3) Rogers. Jesus Christ, I'd cry tears of joy if we landed Warmack in the 1st and Patton in the 2nd. Guy just seems like a good guy and in my opinion the best route runner in the draft. At least as a player, reminds me a lot of Justin Blackmon.

ive loved patton since the day saw him man. ive been hearing most compare him to reggie wayne as of late. but yes i believe he is the most complete wr in this draft......

a lil something i found on him

  • He has good size and strength
  • He has good speed.
  • He has reliable hands.
  • He has great acceleration/reaches top speed quickly.
  • He is willing to block on the edge.
  • He can make defenders miss in space.
  • He is smooth in and out of routes.
  • He has very good body control.
  • He is able to catch ball then he turns up field immediately.
  • He shows the quickness and agility to be effective against press coverage
  • He can stretch the field.
  • He is a threat to make a play after the catch.

As I look at more tape on Patton I think he is the 2nd best pure WR in this draft. I like his route running and hands a lot. My only question is size and speed which we will find out at the combine. But right now I only have him behind Justin Hunter.

Well this thread has done nothing to quell my obsession for Patton. 2nd best is not too shabby. Will he last till our second round pick?

Hah, you're of the same opinion as me on this. The way I look at it, the two most important things to look at for a WR prospect are the ability to hand catch and the ability to separate. Only two WRs look great to me in both these categories: Hunter and Patton.

That's what I've been saying. Everybody loves Patterson for his freak athletisim but don't look at how he catches the ball and how he's running his routes. When you look at Patton's and Hunter film you can see the separation from good route running and how they pluck balls a out the air with little effort. That what makes a WR.

    • I still think another QB is brought in Day 3. Grier is camp body level at this point.
    • We’re in a pickle. My best hope is we protect him and can run the ball vs most Ds and the WRs are healthy so he has every chance to not look like what he looked like in too many games last year.
    • I'm really not stressing about upgrading from Bryce. I'm frustrated with our inability (or refusal) to recognize overall bad QB performance and failure to seriously address the issue. QB is the most impactful position on the field, and we're not only settling for what we've been given to this point, but we've rewarded it with a fully guaranteed 5th year extension for a player that's never played 2 NFL franchise QB quality games back to back in 3 seasons. I can't understand how that's ok from a coach's or GM's viewpoint. Successful franchises don't do things like this. It just doesn't make sense.  We do not have a top half of the league QB right now. Since we don't have that player, we should be looking for him. Pickett isn't it. Grier isn't it. Bryce hasn't proven he is yet. Until you have that sure fire franchise QB, you keep looking. You're not consistently making the playoffs, a deep run, or a SB appearance without one.  What's the worst that could happen? We end up with 2 potential number 1 QBs? How horrible.
