Tonight we will have a great match up on our hands. For some of the guys on the huddle who rarely gets to watch Oregon or Stanford play, tune into ABC tonight at 8! Now to business, the purpose of this thread is that we get to take a little look at Chip Kelly offense and Defense and see how it does against a pretty stout Stanford team lead by David Shaw who is Jim Harbaugh Prodigy! Oregon is kind of beat up a little this year but they are on the road to the BCS Championship. Stanford comes into this game ranked in the top 13 with no Andrew Luck. David Shaw has his fingerprints all over this program and I really want to see how his team will play against the Ducks tonight.

Now a lot of guys on this forum wants Chip kelly as head coach. This will give us a sample of what he could bring to the Panthers Offensively and Defensively wise.

oregon's defense has been really beaten up all year. i'm not sure kelly does a whole lot with the defense other than setting the tone and laying down expectations for his defensive coaching staff.

they've been a team that has been successful because of the offense. stick that guy with a proven and successful defensive coaching staff and/or DC and i think you've got something great there.

Oregon is averaging something like 330 rushing yards / game and stanford is #1 in defending the run, allowing something like 50-60 rush yards / game. I'm really excited to see this game. Although I must admit, I hope Oregon crushes them. I'd hate for them to lose and miss out on the national championship, making Kelly want to stay another year.

Oregon is a machine. It's almost like they toy with other teams until somebody says "OK, go score 3 TDs in 2 minutes".

i think sometimes they spend the better part of the first quarter just to see how the defense responds to stuff and finds out weak spots and then just spends the rest of the game exploiting those weak spots.

some may not like it, but i love the idea of running up a score. i hate it when it happens to the panthers, but that's because i'm a hypocritical homer with a bad case of the double standards.

I'm really hyped about this game. I just want Chip Kelly to win so he can hopefully make that jump to the NFL. I'm also stoked just to see how David Shaw Stanford team perform. This will be a tough task with no Luck. If Stanford pulls an upset things can get really tricky in the standings!

    • Me and you clearly have different definitions of production. If you remove the 2023 season where Thielen had just over 1k yards he is 43rd on our all time receivers list just ahead of Jonathan Mingo. And before you ask why would we remove that season? Well a couple reasons. For one thing we won a whopping 2 games. And for the biggest. Thielen was 14th in targets in 2023. We absolutely force fed him the ball all season and finished with the 32nd passing offense. For comparison sake 33 year old Jerricho Cotchery eclipsed over 1k total yards in just 2 more games and with 67 less targets than Thielen did in that 2023 season. He has above average hands. That's it. We overpaid him because we were desperate and overvalued him. That's the reality no matter how many times you or anyone else wants to quote me and get defensive about it.
    • He's played great and it was a win-win (rare free agent) for both parties.  One of the points is he hasn't made enough difference to "waste" 35 million on. Another point is by the time Panthers are hitting their prime, he would have taken snaps away from young WRs/TEs/RBs. "Thus" in the long term, hurting the teams new future "window."  But I dare think of the monkey poo of a offense the Panthers had without him the past 2 years. Lack of talent leads to many problems, including paying a 35 year old to be somewhat respectable. Hes one of few that cared enough and made a effort. Plus you know he's done great stuff in many other ways for the team, community juggernaut, leadership, etc.  Judgement is for AT and his 3 year panther career!!
    • But it has gotten a little wacky. RBs-https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/contracts/_/position/rb     A couple months ago iggles made Bark the highest guaranteed RB, jeanty was until then. That's what matters the guarantee. A rookie never played a down was the leader, until iggles howie made things right.  If a safety gets drafted in the top 8 or so, he would have the highest money too or very close to it.    Add in TEs and C too.    Even with the fixed %, the numbers are getting too much for a player that's not proven themselves.     Plus anytime a QB is drafted it screws up the contracts for players around and if next year a punter gets drafted at the same 90th spot, they want the same contract with the 5.7% increase. Teams would be laughing.    Its just reached this point. Another 10 years and I bet the vets will be crying.
