When Will Steve Smith Get Old?

Pejorative Miscreant

Recommended Posts

I think most posters who carefully watch the games can see he has finally lost a step.

Smitty isnt what he was even last year

Can't argue he's lost a step, but it doesn't matter. He's still far and away the best player on offense (Cam will get there) and the biggest reason our other guys get the catches they do. One of the announcers talked about it tonight, Smitty drawing double teams led to a few big plays by other receivers. Not to mention his tenacious blocking in the run game and for other receivers.

i know he is very polarizing on the message board but it is worth saying that he is getting long in the tooth, yet, he still draws double teams and still is one of the most energetic players on the offense. IDiscuss if you like.

That's because every team realizes that he's still the best receiver this team has. Everyone else is still quite green around the gills. Go back and watch the video and you'll see what I mean.

My problem with Smitty is that he has no self-control which is not good because he is the real leader of this team, despite what you folks want to say.

    • His size will always limit him.  Do t kid yourself
    • When a team has EXPECTATIONS you have to show them that your fandom and praise is EARNED.  People would be mad if the they lost two one goal competitive games like 2023 but they wouldn't have gotten booed out of the building because the effort and competitiveness would be there but to lose in THAT fashion at home with your entire top line going free lance and saying fug this yeahhh.
    • Well with back to back road games to open the season again we really can't afford a "slow start" at least not for the psyche of the fanbase that is already at rock bottom from years of losing. I think that will depend on our approach to preseason this go around. But I do agree the makings of a culture change could be big for us. At the same time we heard talk of this last year and then we got the doors blown off multiple times. I can agree with you it's best to try to maintain perspective until we get closer to the midway point of the season. The main things I want to see early on even if we aren't necessarily winning is spark and toughness from the offense and defense and at least keeping games close.
