For those of you that want to cut Jordan Gross...

Awesomeness!!

Yes, those 4 suck bad. That has nothing to do with Gross' salary or performance.

Don't get me wrong, I think he's good, but we can't continue to pay $10.5 million a year for "good". To put it in perspective, he earns way more than those other 4 combined.

I'm just saying we have far too many more pressing needs than to be spending a top 5 pick on replacing a position that isn't one of our bigger problems.

When wanting to cut Gross due to age and declining play, remember John Kasay. The grass is not always greener. We've gone through how many kickers in the brief time since he was cut, and not one of them, or all of them put together into some sort of FrankenKicker can hold Kasay's jockstrap.

And that includes calling Kasay at his house this evening and having him come kick for us Sunday. Still better.

One thing we can all agree on-- I would assume--If we cut Gross, we have to draft a T in the first, probably one of the two from Tex A&M. The only way it makes sense is if we fill at least one area of need with the cap room it creates.

Gross still has value and his cap # for a LT is reasonable. Instead of cutting him, why not trade him for a right guard or safety? I am sure there are a few teams out there with a need at LT and a stockpile where we have needs.

Dude it's okay, you can hang your Jordan Gross jersey up and it will be a cool way to remember him.

Sacks aren't the only thing that matter in pass rushing. Gross also has to block for our running backs. His performance as not been worth his pay, SIMPLE and PLAIN.

Cut him, get money, draft a replacement.

Or do you like being good ole complacent Carolina every year?

I'm sorry, I mistook you for an informed football fan. I did not realize that you weren't actually looking for a discussion and instead wanted to see who you could bait into being trolled. Otherwise you would have seen where I mentioned how he did in the run vs KC, kept your petty dismissive comments to yourself while trying to pretend that you have actually watched Gross play, and didn't look at a bunch of numbers that you don't understand.

Thank you though for only further proving to me that most in support of the cut outside of a select few know absolutely nothing about football before i put you on ignore :)

This is where you post some gif or meme that shows us how hip you are and how little you care.

Gross has the 2nd highest average salary for a left tackle, behind only Joe Thomas. His cap hit is $11.5 million. That is only reasonable if you are the best at the position, and Jordan is not.

LT's typically don't hit FA if they are any good, so if we decide to replace Gross we will probably have to do it through the draft. One thing is clear though. Whether we re-negotiate his salary or trade him or cut him, Jordan is going to have to be ready to play for less money. I don't see any way the Panthers or any other team ponies up $11+ million for Gross in 2013.

Assuming makes an ass out of you and me.

Kansas City isn't the only game that shows his play decline, go use your fancy NFL rewind and check out Seattle, Chicago, Denver.

I love Gross, you're getting the wrong impression. I am just in favor of cutting him so we can draft a solid replacement and have money for a free agent defensive player.

Yes we will easily find someone better than him haha, his name is Luke Joeckel.

Welcome to the NFL, this is how things work. You'll understand some day.

Yes, it is easy to find a better replacment if you are allowed to choose from players predicted around the 4-8 pick. Problem is last time I check we only have one first round pick though and tons of higher needs than LT.

You build a franchise from the OL and DL out.

You now have a franchise QB that needs protecting....your situation at RT is marginal at best....top OT are always taken in the draft (they never hit FA)....

Based on the above, the top 5 pick will be one of 3 areas.....LT, DT, or DB.

Based on those three and our OL situation, I would give OT a much better probability than DT or DB.

Eat your breakfast....pay attention in class...you will understand one day.

Even if what we have starting on the OL now is what we'd be starting with next year, each player is better than what we'll probably have starting at NT for us next year if we don't get a new one. I don't expect Ron Edwards to be a Panther next year. And I don't wanna hear "oh just grab one in FA" because getting a DT isn't much easier than getting a LT. Elite DTs don't change teams much more than LTs, and the good ones that do are almost never worth what they were paid. We're not gonna have the money to get anyone much better than Ron was when we got him anyway, even if we did cut Gross. DTs are expensive.

We'll probably renegotiate with Gross, get his cap number down to 7 or 8 mil, draft a player at a position of more need in the 1st (I would say DT, but I wouldn't rule out CB, WR, or some surprise move if trades are involved) and keep an eye out for a solid looking OT to slip like Glenn did or address it later. Win-win situation for all.
