Rivera will be back

Recommended Posts

Is there any reason not to believe Rivera can bring the Defense to the highest level? Acknowledging Rivera has made terrible game decisions is something I can agree with....thinking that's going to define him is something I can't accept. Development happens...these players believe in him, it's too bad some don't see how very important that is, and how special that can be.

It's not just the record.

Like it or not, if they look like they're improving and finishing strong, it could do a lot to influence the decision.

if a Team finishes very strong, like we are now, and you fire the head coach you can end up doing a lot of unneeded damage to the team.

If we blow everyone out like we have been from here out I'd say Rivera has saved his Job.

What everyone needs to look at with Rivera is that this team clearly has not given up on him, he still has this team listening to him and Playing hard. they are building camaraderie and Rivera has their attention and respect, and the players right now are playing hard for him.

1-12 in games decided by a TD or less...

Heartbreaking...I watched them all. It sucks, and everyone wants it to be different. Saying it's Ron is a valid point. Saying he is unable to improve and excel is short-sighted. My opinion...I could be very wrong...but I've seen some great stuff recently and these players like Rivera....and Kuchley/Cam are the foundation here...along with RR....Grow together and mature as a unit, I want it to have time to develop.

I don't know how I feel anymore.

Finish winning strongly against 2 teams that have nothing to play for, well, OK.

The positives of Rivera:

1. clearly the team has not quit like alot of other teams have and God knows, they have had plenty of reason to do so.

2. the same O and same D for the 3rd year might not be bad.

3. perhaps his coaches have learned to count to 11

The negatives:

1. to slow and stubborn to admit things were not working with the O changes

2. not allowing Newton to grow

3. keep the 2 worst DTs on a roster I have ever seen (and I'm sure was part of drafting them)

4. losing close games against good teams

5. I just can never see him out coaching a Bellinchik or a Coughlin or a Tomlin or a Harbaugh...I just don't see it, wish i could.

Then again, people in NY were calling for Coughlin's head too before he won Super Bowls.

Look on the bright side...at least this team has been in that many games that we wound up losing over the last two seasons. I seem to remember a few seasons under Fox where all losses were out of reach entering the 4th. All that stat means is we are that close. Could coaching improve? YES. Could the players stand to eliminate stupid late game mistakes? YES.

Last year we blamed all the close losses on the kicker. Why does Rivera take all the blame this year when just as many games were lost by players? As the coach Rivera should be blamed for some mistakes...but my goodness he cannot control everything. He is not on the field when those costly fumbles and interceptions occur. Let the man get his personnel in there. Hurney has still been building a John fox team the past couple of seasons...its now time to let Rivera and the new GM build a Rivera team.

Rivera is developing the Norv Turner syndrome. When it matters his team don't show up and play. When It don't matters and jobs are on the line then they decide to play. If we keep Rivera our team will always be mediocre just like the Chargers.

Food for thought: The Chargers sucked ass today.

Thats not the problem, its just losing the close games for me. Not trying to take matters into our hands and win the game, even when we got desperate for a win he still gave a conservative approach (falcons, bears games) when the pressure is on him to be a HEAD COACH he folds. I know he is still got the team playing for him but thats kind of overrated, coordinators can still get there units to play for them in bad seasons.

The Giants have a coach who has 2 Super Bowl rings. We have a coach who is 11-19 in his career and 1-12 in games decided by a TD or less. Almost all of his wins have come when we have already been mathematically eliminated from the playoffs.

The 1-12 state is probably one of the most used, and misleading stats thrown around on here.

Each game is a different story unto itself, for example we lot the Cowboys game because the Ref's literally screwed us over, we lost the Bears game because our punter shanked a punt straight out of bounds to give them the ball practically already in the red zone.

This is what I'm talking about, now have the coaches been perfect in end of game decisions no, are they as bad as a lot of people been trying to make it out to be, nope.

Did you watch the Bears game???? I don't know how you can even consider saying they lost because they got too conservative. that's the last thing I would say about that game.

other then that read my last post

He's had considerable pressure for saving his Job for the last 2 months now, I think that speaks about his reaction to pressure by itself.

And personnel issues are a bigger reason for our late game issues, (O-line/DB's) then anythings else.

    • My father played Defensive End at Ohio State so naturally my kid is a huge Ohio State fan to go along with his being a huge Gamecock fan due to my ties to the school but last year he swore up and down we needed to draft Stroud number 1. I don't know if it was just being an Ohio State homer or what but he kept watching video after video of highlights and said Stroud was the future for us.  This past season he now claims we should have taken Rattler with one of our later round pics due to him saying he will be one of the huge steals of the draft and will be NFL ready within one season if it takes that. He said if Bryce busts completely we would have a future top QB to turn the team over to with Rattler taken in the fifth. From his prediction last year I'm starting to believe maybe they should hire him as a consultant for a few bucks a week. Hell, he is 13. They could pay him $50 a week for consulting and he would would think he is rich!
    • Yeah we know he is short blah blah blah. I don't have a ton of faith in Young to be the guy or the future but damn that joke is older than the why the chicken crossed the road.
