Yet another Chip Kelly source/rumor

Not many people are concerned about Chip kelly transitioning to the NFL:

i see that a lot and i don't see that being said so much about others.

the more you look at what he actually does and find out why, the better he sounds and can figure out why he'd be successful.

Top 3 YPP Offenses in the NFL right now ?

Niners, Seattle, Panthers.

Read option is a big part of that.

It's not the devil we have made it out to be.

It just has to be balanced with under center plays as well.

Kelly isn't so fugtard stupid he would run it every play.

This is 100% truth.

The read option in itself is not a bad play. The problem lies with catering your whole offense around it (pass plays included).

I honestly hope that the next regime (if a new one is brought in) doesn't do away with the read option, but rather instill a watered down version of it and use it against overly agressive defenses.

I see Chip Kelly as an upgrade. There are a lot of "He is Gimmicky" dissenters but his offense still confuses coordinators after how long in College?

If Coach Belechick is asking for new wrinkles to help him...and ITS WORKING!! I think he will be okay....

He will have to get some veteran coaches.

he doesn't cater the whole offense around it neccesarily, they do pretty much everything out of that formation making the defense think that at any point they will be running it. they know the defense is going to try and stuff it and they count on the defense doing it but they do it knowing that they will have to leave them vulnerable elsewhere to try and stop it. their offense is successful not because the run option/their running game works so well, but because it occupies the defense and makes them vulnerable to everything else.

As stupid as this sounds. He does keep the read option plays open for Cam. Probably will mix in a few more plays to help ease the burden on Newton. So, I wouldn't have any problem with this.

As much as I hate the redskins I see him mixing the read in and not having the base offensive. I've see numerous rumors about him the last few days

has monte kiffin been able to stop it?

how did vic fangio fare against it?

agreed that he would need NFL vet coaches to work with him. that's essential.

I see nothing in that source's quote in which he says Chip is being considered here. He just says the rumor is "most interesting".

They give you an inch, you guys take it a mile.

I wouldn't necessarily mind him here but hell guys, this is all hearsay yet you wanna crown his ass already. Keep your panties on.

2 Excellent Head Coaches there...and Ron Rivera.

Most intriguing would be the Chip Kelly offense modified as Patriots do currently with their Speed Offense. Devestating to opposing Ds.

,

Kelly’s overall message to the Patriots: Don’t put a limit on your players’ minds; they will learn whatever you teach them.

“I was interested to hear how he did it,” Belichick said. “I would say he expanded it to a different level and it was very interesting to understand what he was doing. Certainly I’ve learned a lot from talking to Chip about his experiences with it and how he does it and his procedure and all that.”

Welcome to Gillette Stadium, can I take your play call?

Changing on the fly

It is believed the Patriots started to implement the one-word no-huddle for the 2011 season under O’Brien, but it didn’t always go smoothly because of the verbiage.

“We have smart guys and everything,” Brady said. “The correlation with what you say, maybe it’s a call in your offense that means something, and then there’s something that means similar in no-huddle.

“I think there are universal terms in football that defenses may use from team to team or we have certain words like ‘tinn’ and you have to know the depths. That’s a very universal term that a defense may even use that we use as an offense. So when you go to no-huddle, you don’t want to say tinn because everyone else has a pretty good idea of what you’re talking about.”

And the Patriots have to change their words because it doesn’t take long for other teams, especially those within the division, to catch on.

“We’ve changed them three times,” Brady said. “[The coaches said], ‘Well, we’re not going to use that, we’re going to use this particular word.’ And I’m like, ‘Man, can’t we go back to one we’ve already used before, back to the original one?’ ”

The beauty of the Patriots’ no-huddle is it can take many forms and speeds because of Brady.

It’s not technically one word, because a play call such as “Bama” would include an alignment call. Brady would bark out the call like, “Bama left.”

But the bottom line is the same: Brady uses one of the six game-planned calls when he wants to go fast, and that tells everyone on the field what they are supposed to do.

........

Simplified play calls are all the rage on the college level, where O’Brien has transferred the Patriots’ package — dubbed “NASCAR” at Penn State — to the Nittany Lions, who ran 39 plays in just more than a quarter to erase a 28-17 deficit to defeat Northwestern, 39-28, Saturday.

That previously mentioned lengthy West Coast play call? It’s the same one ESPN analyst Jon Gruden threw at former Auburn quarterback Cam Newton on his QB Camp television special.

Newton was at a loss to equate an Auburn play to an NFL play. Newton was ridiculed nationally because critics thought it showed that Newton couldn’t handle a pro offense.

But what people didn’t realize at the time was Newton’s subsequent answer, when Gruden talked about Auburn using the no-huddle a lot, was actually more telling.

“Our method is ‘simplistic equals fast,” Newton said. “It’s so simple as far as, you look to the sideline [and] you see ‘36’ on the board. And that’s a play. And we’re off.”

What people didn’t get, because the NFL is slow to evolve, is that Newton was actually showing them a glimpse of the future.

Would Jerry Richardson actually do this?

Yeah right.

One of the things that bothers me with this profession, this speculation doesn’t go on with anyone else’s profession,” he said. “If you work for Liberty Mutual or something, I don’t think people sit around the watercooler saying who is getting this job and that job. It kind of becomes a national phenomenon. Everybody has a job right now.

“The Carolina Panthers have, in my opinion, an outstanding coach. I just think it’s kind of the sad part of our profession, that people talk about people getting jobs that aren’t even open. I’ve always just steered clear of that stuff. I’ve always approached it that the job I have is the job I love and coach my tail off here and get ready to play in the Fiesta Bowl.”

LOL he called Rivera an outstanding coach.

gimmick nothing.

it's a run heavy offense in which the running game (which forces the defense to have to choose between two possible runners instead of one) sets up the passing game and forces the defense to choose between trying to overload the box to stop the run game or protect themselves against play action, screens, bootlegs, or the triple option or any of a myriad of other plays taking advantage of the holes they leave open.

and they do this giving the defense no time to adjust, get set up, disguise what they are going to do, or make substitutions.

not sure where the gimmick is.

The gimmick's in GOATc

I'm not opposed to the Chip Kelly hire. However at this point my fear is the team having to adjust to a new system again. Despite all my previous anti Cam sentiment in the past, he has grown as a qb towards the end of this season. I don't know how much of that has to do with his individual/mental growth, or Chudzinski's system finally being adapted to muscle memory. At this point I want to keep our coaches, or hire the right coaches that accelerate his growth and not force him to take a step back to learn more terminology. If Chip Kelly can adapt what Cam already knows and morph it into something more that would be awesome. If it involves another year of retooling then I'm not sure about it. If we win the next two games it will be hard to justify making a change even though I will be first to admit I have been the biggest advocate for firing Rivera.

it would be something similar to what he's already proven to excel in. the hardest thing to adjust to would be the pace and cam's already worked at that pace.

i have no doubt it would be easy to adjust to and learn and aside from a couple missing pieces on the oline is set up to run it.
