While Carolina Panthers coach Ron Rivera awaits his long-anticipated meeting with owner Jerry Richardson this weekend, an industry expert said the Panthers – should they decide to fire Rivera – have not lost ground to the seven teams that let their coaches go Monday.

Rivera is scheduled to meet with Richardson on Saturday

After Richardson sits down with Rivera this weekend, the Panthers are expected to begin interviewing GM candidates next week. With former New York Giants GM Ernie Accorsi consulting on the search, the Panthers have asked to speak with a pair of Giants executives – director of college scouting Marc Ross and senior pro personnel analyst Dave Gettleman.

Panthers interim GM Brandon Beane also is expected to interview, while Tennessee Titans vice president of player personnel Lake Dawson also has drawn interest from the Panthers, according to a league source.

If Richardson was going to fire Rivera, he would have done it right after the season. He would have at least met with Rivera right after the season. There is NO WAY, he would wait an entire week to meet with Rivera and then fire him. That makes absolutely no sense. The meeting is probably about the new GM, where Rivera see's this team going, and plans moving forward. There is no way this meeting is to fire Rivera. That's nonsense.

    • We paid Bridgewater 60 million and cut his ass after 1 season because he didn’t have the arm talent to operate the offense. Only difference is Teddy wasn’t Tepper’s little pet project.
    • Being happy about a win isn't giving up on them, but when people say things like, "we should just be happy after a win given how bad we've been the last 10 years", that's being happy regardless of how we looked because we don't get a lot of wins, which is straight up loser mentality. And that's my point, 95% of the people happy about this win are also saying those kind of things. I'm not upset that we won, I'm upset that we still didn't look good in key areas, namely play calling, if you can't see the difference between those things, then that's a you problem, not a me problem. This win does NOTHING for us into the future, which is why it's hard for me to get exited over a win against another horrible team where we still didn't look good outside of a few big runs by Rico.  Trust me, if we turned some corner and looked great with Canales calling a great game to keep the Dolphins guessing wrong all day, then yea, I'd be on here celebrating it up, but that's not close to what happened.
    • Tremayne is a better WR than Young is a QB. Why make so many excuses for Young and not Tremayne?
