If Chud gets HC job, should that make Rivera dispensable?

The biggest argument for keeping Rivera was "We dont want to harm Cam by learning a new playbook and risk stunting his growth." Well if we have to get a new OC, guess what? Cam will have to learn a new playbook and would risk stunting his growth. So my question is simple, if Chud goes and Cam and the offense has to learn a new system anywaym why would we keep Rivera again? I know JR is honorable and probably wouldnt fire Rivera this season now anyway, but what a slap in the face if Chud goes and the main reason of keeping Rivera would be moot.

I've seen Oliver Stone films with less conjecture.

If Chud leaves and we can't get Norv, what's really the point of having Rivera then?

One has nothing to do with the other. Rivera has always been a defensive guy not an offensive guy. Besides, do you think that Norv and Chud are the only guys who understand how to run a Coryell style offense.

Seriously?????

Rivera is a defensive mind...the type who can help turn an overall average lot into a top 10 D.

Also, Rivera has the lockerroom...which is important. He also is a good X's and O's guy.

Plus, he seems to be good w/ Cam and forward thinking.

....Rivera just needs a good OC and to slightly more aggressive in spots.

No, but Rivera choices in coaches has been iffy at best. I predict Shula if the scenario were to happen

I would like to see the Texans offense here( of course with Cam instead of Matt "Noodle Arm" Schaub). Of course I think keeping Cam in the same system is the first choice but if we were to change I think the Zone Run Blocking would better suit our RBs(Like it used to) and with Cam's arm teams couldn't stack the box against the run like they do against Schaub....CAMpionship!

Chud and Rivera have been good choices. Picking coaches is really a timing thing. He kept Meeks for example because the guy he wanted, Wilkes wasn't available. When he was, he picked him up.

    • A team should always be putting at least one or two draft picks in at tackle and guard each season. Those guys just don't last nearly long enough and those that do get very, very expensive. In our situation, we need a little more time to see what the Icky injury works itself out to. Njiman performed really well out there and if this injury lingers into the next season, then he might do well enough there to hold the line for the team. Or we could draft early if there is a stud LOT in the draft when our spot comes along.  Honestly, we may be looking at replacing both LT and RT this season at this point. Moton is getting long in the tooth and while he deserves a shot to go for a playoff run with this team, I don't know whether we will really see him come back next season yet. It's still so darned early in all of this to say.
    • Because we had a ton of things go our way this year and made the playoffs with a -70 point differential.  This year was the outlier.  Regression to the mean is unavoidable.  So the team will have to significantly improve to beat 8 wins next year.
    • One thing I noticed in this game (and I say this as the biggest of Bryce Young haters) is that Bryce did do a solid job of throwing into voids in this game, and leading receivers on crossers.  There were a few times where I was thinking "where the hell is he throwing it" only for a receiver to appear out of nowhere and catch it in stride.  Mike McDaniel might be a guy that can squeeze a little bit of production out of the otherwise ghastly Bryce Young. His offenses heavily feature that style of passing game.  I've heard Idzik is drawing interest from other teams.  If so, bringing McDaniel in at OC would be a stellar move.  I know it'll never happen, but fun to think about.
