Manti Te'o lied about his Girlfriend dying

i never considered that. why are you talking to her on the phone instead of buying a plane ticket while she's dying of cancer

IIRC, he said that she insisted that he not miss a game because of her... I guess he took that to mean CoD & Madden also...

Good grief, this is the NFL we are talking about. If you can play, someone will give you a chance. Everyone was afraid to pick Burfict, and he quickly became a starter on a playoff team. Te'O's draft stock will fall even further than it was already, but if he is as good as some people think he is, his career will be fine.

This isn't the same kind of story as Burfict.

Look up what happened to Tony Washington.

Even if he is homosexual...I mean does it really matter...? And if he wanted to keep it a secret I don't understand why he would create this elaborate illusion for the entire country..you could always just keep your mouth shut?...manti you had a great season...if you're gay whatever, but why do this to yourself...makes no sense.

Whatever the media dishes out is nothing compared to his family and church if he comes out as a gay Mormon.

This isn't the same kind of story as Washington, either. Washington was not this high level of a prospect anyway.

Washington was on the rise after a strong combine performance. Te'o is coming off a lousy bowl game and will face questions about how sympathy for his story may have inflated his stock.

More to the point, like Washington, Teo's story will come with a huge amount of publicity, all negative. He'll also have the colossal stigma of being the guy who lied about a dead girlfriend which means media scrutiny wherever he goes.

Any GM that looks at him is going to have to believe he's such a phenomenal player that it'd be worth the circus that's bound to follow him.

I have my doubts that he's actually that good.

"They started out as just friends," Te'o's father, Brian, told the Tribune in October 2012. "Every once in a while, she would travel to Hawaii, and that happened to be the time Manti was home, so he would meet with her there."

And it was around this time that Manti and his father began filling in details about the linebacker's relationship with Lennay. Brian Te'o told multiple reporters that the family had never met Kekua; the Te'os were supposed to spend time with her when they visited South Bend, Ind., for Notre Dame's Senior Day on Nov. 17.

So despite her visiting Hawaii multiple times, he never introduced her to his family?

I don't know if this is fuged up, but I kind of want him to be gay, just to see the interesting stories/conversations/debate that comes of it. It'd be better then all the constant shitty The Golden Calf of Bristol/lebron stories.

    • At this point, I think Chubba is the odd man out. I hate that, but I think Dowdle gives us more production and big play ability.  But there is still a lot of football to play.  I think it depends on how much Dowdle will want too.
    • I’ve been anti-trade when it comes to Melo, but the way this season has started, it may be time.  I love his game and he’s a cool dude, but I’m starting to think, if he’s your best player, you’re never going to win anything of significance.  Too many brain farts, too many injuries, and ultimately for as fun and entertaining as he is to watch - his game is indeed a thing of beauty - it just doesn’t translate to wins.  And that’s IF he even plays.  I think it’s time to cash out and maximize the return.  I love Melo, but I think it’s pretty clear what the ceiling is for a team where he is the best player.
    • Every NFL team, college program, hell even HS has numerous "what ifs" that got derailed by injury. It's a brutal sport and half the battle is just getting lucky enough to stay healthy. Doesn't matter how durable you are and how well you take care of your body everyone is one weird hit or awkward twist away from a career derailing injury.
