Gettleman expected to release Gamble

League sources expect Gettleman’s first major move to be the release of veteran cornerback Chris Gamble, which would free up $7.9 million in cap space. After that the decisions get trickier, such as whether to keep both high-priced running backs or part ways with franchise rushing leader DeAngelo Williams?

Linebacker Jon Beason and offensive tackle Jordan Gross, two of the team’s captains, could be asked to restructure their contracts. And a number of other starters could be on their way out as cap victims.

This probably will make adding a new defensive back much higher of a priority this offseason.

Think I'ma be sick.

Guess it has to be done, though. Definitely one of my favorite players on the team and the league. Guess my Gamble jersey is worthless now.

I'll take that off your hands. :)

The only jersey I have is a D-Lo jersey. I could be out of luck soon too.

Although both would be remembered as Panthers after they retired, regardless of where they complete their careers. Their jerseys will become usable again after the players retire.

Chris Gamble was my first draft pick as a diehard Panthers fan. (Something just turned on inside me just prior to the start of our SB season making me a diehard)

Was always curious if it'd make me feel old when he retired (if he did so by natural means)

    • well, players dictating things only works if you have the right collection of players to dictate things.  and in all honesty, not sure if we can answer if we do or don't as fans given......there are no Thomas Davis types around that we know are actually about X and Y (based on years showing it).  Collective team is too new to us to know what these dudes are really about in terms of players carrying the burden of culture.
    • Moore can be put in one of the vet spots on IR. No one will be checking for him at the start of the season. But I would be very perturbed if we tried to go all Gettlemagic and stash an obvious talent like Horn on practice squad like we did Butker. If we can get through this year, next year it will be obvious Moore and AT will be gone, starting namely with AT's contract.
    • Culture change comes from the top down, not from drafting a 3 and no D guard. I doubt Lamelo is gonna take his cues from this 20yr old kid lol. If Brandon Miller couldn’t change the culture with how good he is and how much he hustles on both ends, Kon Knueppel sure as hell ain’t changing it. Ace Bailey by all accounts is also a great teammate and hard worker, btw, who was drafted by a team he supposedly didn’t want to go to yet he immediately bought in. And he’s got actual length and tools on both ends of the floor. I feel this pick is going to age like milk rather quickly.
