since Jerry Richardson came back from the heart transplant. Going through traumatic experiences have a tendency to change a person to the core. Is it too much for him?

What makes you think anything in the near term is going to change with this team?

Has he shown the city a commitment to winning?

Do you think he is a hands off owner and is letting Gettleman call all the shots?

As an aside...I do think he is a good person so please do not misconstrue my statements.

I would say it had more to do with Jake Delhomme's arm falling off than JR's heart transplant. Besides, he's always spent money. I don't know how else an owner shows a commitment to win. He might suck at it, but he's committed.

True and that did cross my mind. He is certainly not Mike Brown by any means. He has always been overly conservative though. Even when spending money on free agents....which are our own players most of the time. It's the "devil that you know" scenario.

He might be too loyal to his own players, but of all the ways to be mediocre, I would prefer that to cheapness or stupidity. Hopefully, Gettleman can find a balance. But the spending and resources are there for this team to be good. We just need somebody to use them.

I think he put too much faith in Hurney and the QB situation hurt us too... they were not prepared for Jake to just stop producing like he did. We didn't have a QB in the pipe to take over for Jake.

23-41 is a coincidence of bad situations coming together imo.

I think, for the most part, JR is a hands off owner. The only time that I believe JR has been hands on has been during transitional phases - Leading up to Fox's lame duck year and forcing Hurney to release older players, preparing for the lockout, etc. During normal seasons I think he allows total control to the GM's regarding contracting and player personnel.

I was looking at the record and then became curious as to when his heart transplant happened. I have a hard time believing that it hasn't played a part

In the list of things that have impacted the aforementioned 23-41 record, I think Jerry's heart transplant it nowhere to be found.

That being said, what makes me think anything in the near-term is going to change with this team? Since his heart transplant we have an entirely new coaching staff, a new GM, a new quarterback, and a new defensive leader. Our offense is completely different. One could argue that we've changed as much if not more than any team in the league since that time. San Francisco, Seattle, and Indy come to mind as teams that have changes as much and possibly more. We may continue to be mediocre, but that's not by design. What remains as a constant in this organization, and I expect to continue to remain, is Jerry's philosophy of taking care of your own. He'll let Gettleman call the shots - choosing free agents and what players to draft - but he's not going to allow him to abandon the philosophy that should guide those decisions. And he found a GM that agrees. Gettleman and the Giants did not make big free agent splashes.

Richardson's biggest flaw is not that he is cheap, it is that he is too loyal.

Hurney should have been shown the door with Fox. Had Hurney been shown the door, this team would look a lot different. They may not have been as competitive in the last two years, however we would be in a position moving forward to build with our young stud QB and our young stud LB.

Unfortunately, it seems we are going to waste a couple years of Cam and Luke's careers by paying for the sins of our past (paying ridiculous amounts of money to D-Will, Beason, Godfrey, Gamble, Gross, and Johnson).

This team is a 6-10, 7-9 season away from a coaching change and another set back. When a franchise is ran the way this one was in 2010-2011, the long term effects can be brutal.

We are on the right track.

IMO, the only major mistake was not getting rid of Rivera. But I could be wrong on that. I would have liked to have gone ahead and cleaned house this season. 2010 style and rebuild from the foundation. Cam+Luke+ new everything else.

But we will see how it plays out.

And by "it" you mean the ability to write a paycheck? Ideally, the ownership has very little to do with the success of the team outside of hiring the person that runs the team. If you think that Gettleman is a good choice, then JR would still have "it" as it were.

Of course, this would be different if JR was an owner and acting GM ala Jerry Jones. Do you believe this to be the case, making Gettleman nothing more than a hollow suit?
