Keenan Allen Pro Day Tommorow.

@James_Dator: It seems scouts confer that one of the 40s was way slower than what I had: 4.67. He got a terrible start on both

@James_Dator: My count could be off, but I see two scouts, one coach and Rivera here from the #Panthers. They're the most rep'd team now

@James_Dator: Scouts are dispersed over the field, Rivera has been locked onto Allen the whole time. Also locked onto: his bagel

@James_Dator: Dr. Andrews says Allen's knee is at 100% his surrounding muscles are at 75%... Per trainers

@James_Dator: 9 7/8 hands for Allen. 32 3/8 arms

@James_Dator: Ron Rivera just asked for a private meeting with Allen. Also looked like Rams were asking about his schedule

@James_Dator: Bengals scout: "He did an awesome job"

@James_Dator: 18 yard dig: Catches perfectly in stride

@James_Dator: Overheard a scout (not sure which team) compare Allen to Cris Carter.... So there's that

@James_Dator: Runs a double move, Texans scout calls it 'perfect'

@James_Dator: The route running is impressive.

@James_Dator: Rivera talking to Allen one on one. #Panthers

This is a big one for us. Big enough that I indeed felt compelled enough to start another thread.

The many connections between the Panthers and Allen are there.

In addition to the fact that Allen is having his Pro Day at Proehlific Park, there's a plethora of other things that tie us to him.

-Rivera is a Cal guy

-Reliable Rickly has posted numerous things to his twitter in recent months that tie him to us, such as pictures of the two together, praises for him, etc.

-He fits into what we need, and into Gettleman's stated methodology

-He plays as a position we've spent a ton of time looking at

-Hes a local kid

-He's a soft spoken, intelligent, talented player-all things Richardson has shown an affinity for.

I could go on if I really tried but I think that suitable to demonstrate that we're certainly going to have a special interest over the other 31 teams come tommorow.

I've adopted him as "my guy" and am real curious to see how this pans out tommorow. Frankly, I he dominates, he could rocket out of our range altogether. As he is still recovering from his injury, I don't know that that happens though. Hope it doesn't. Of course if he lays a duck, it really throws a wrench into the works if we indeed as tied to him as the evidence suggests.

Being that he is my guy, I'm getting irritated of seeing other playoff teams act as if he is going to be there when they pick, while they continue to mock a player weve shown zero interest in to us. So frankly, I'm hoping he does just well enough to solidify himself as a number 14 overall pick kind of guy, but that's off topic.

Anyways. This is seemingly the most significant pro day for this team this offseason, so I thought it worth opening up some discussion about.

Mike Mayock will be there and be talking about his pro day specifically tommorow night on the NFLN for those who have it.

Beyond Star & Lane Johnson, who many think and are probably right about being gone, there's a few that are really intruiging:

I agree that if we take a WR in the first, it will be Allen. Nuke is in second, but I think Allen is our frontrunner WR.

Cyprien is where I'm leaning at the moment at SS but it's overall very close in my mind. There is a good chance we could go Allen which I'd have no problem with.

If he runs in the 4.5 range he will be the first wide receiver off the board.

This can't be definitively said. The top 3 WR prospects are close enough that it will come down to the preference of whoever is calling the shots of each team that will be choosing between them on draft day.

Been looking forward to it. Cant wait to hear how he does tomorrow, i think if he puts on a good show he will jump all the way up to a top 15 pick. I think his value has just taking a hit simply because of his injury. He was rated a top 15 pick before the season ended.

Fair enough. But he will at least have the best combination of height, weight, speed and ability.

This is my guy as well. I want him to do well, but I'm terrified that if he dominates, that'll take him right out of our range. We'll see how it goes tomorrow.

I just saw a combine interview with Keenan Allen where he said he thinks his 40 will be in the 4.4 range... Wow.... I can't imagine how much his stock would skyrocket if that is true.

Here's a little Bio I found

"Keenan Allen is a coach’s dream.

Humble, hard-working, competitive, driven and a natural leader, he has the intangibles in addition to natural skills to be a productive wide receiver in the NFL. Many have compared him to the Green Bay Packers’ Jordy Nelson, which would make him a big-time asset in any offenses’ passing game."

I like this guy a lot. I don't care about his 40 time. The guy makes plays. He is big and quick. I've heard another person compare him to VJax.

    • Rico walking is no big deal. I'll take a healthy 2024 Hubbard over Rico any time and losing Mays is, again, no a big deal.  Young is signed for what, $35M for the next two years? Say he wants $50M but the FO doesn't. If they put the franchise tag on him, that would be around $55? So basically they are getting Young for the next 3 years for an average of $30M per year. Putting the franchise tag on him wouldn't be my first choice but it gives them an option that wouldn't be locking him into a long term, $50M contract. I'm not suggestion they do that. Just that the option will be there should they get to that point. Hunt is on a 5 year deal which is done in 28 so he either restructures or is gone anyway. Moton will be 35 by then and will either be gone or have diminished playing time. Neither of those players has anything to do with getting Young a contract. The O line is way overpaid anyway. Hopefully by the time they are gone, Freeling and Hecht will be developed and Ickey will be healthy. Young was benched his second year and only got his job back because Dalton was injured. Not sure how you can call that entitled. And I would NOT say putting a rookie QB on a team with no receivers, tight ends or O lineman and then being put with a coach who never wanted you and is fired mid season, is a definition of luck. As far as competition, no team is going to bring in competition for a QB picked first overall - especially given the capital that was given up to get him.
    • With apologies to Lady Cowboy fan, any day we can screw over the Cowboys is a GOOD day…
    • Been here since 2014ish. Good times. Its a shame Zod wont sell, it wouldnt take that much effort to get this place back into shape.
