The Perfect Draft

I've been thinking about this for weeks and I feel like I've finally come up with a moderately realistic mock that is perfect. I'll give alternates for each pick of guys in case they aren't there. The perfect draft starts with the perfect scenario...and that includes trading back into the 20's and picking up a third round pick and a sixth rounder. So buckle your seat belts...here we go.

1st Round (20's) Jonathon Cyprien SS Florida International

Why: Cyprien is a smart, hard hitting safety that could shore up the middle behind Kuechly. Along with Godfrey we would have two good safeties which would improve the secondary dramatically. We need to add a playmaker in the first round, whether if it's at WR, DT, or Safety. I chose Safety because of the depth at the other positions. If we stay put at 14 I'd be ok with Richardson, Rhodes, or Austin, and I am warming up to the idea of Hopkins.

Alternate: Kenny Vaccaro, S Texas

2nd Round (44) Jonathon Hankins DT Ohio St

Why: Hankins has seemed to drop in the last month or so and with guys like Kwan Short and Sylvester Williams going in the first I think Hankins lands in our laps at 44. Good thing too because he is a big run stuffer that we desperately need. He can also collapse the pocket unlike other big bodied prospects. Hankins may have some motivation issues but then again so does all the second round DT's (and so did Greg Hardy). I like him and think he could start right away and make an impact.

Alternate: Jessie Williams DT Alabama

3rd Round (late 20's) Da'rick Rodgers WR Tennessee Tech

Why: This is absolutely my favorite prospect in the draft and would take a little luck to land him this late because I think he will go in the second. This kid has some maturity issues and has been in trouble but if you can look past that and take a chance you have a potential super star in the making. I've heard him mentioned as a Dez Bryant clone and he would probably push lafell to start. If nothing else he could allow Smith to move to the slot when we go three wide receivers. Can't say enough about this kid, he's more athletic than Allen, more explosive than hopkins, better production than Hunter, and immensely stronger than Austin or Bailey. Love this guy.

Alternate: Marcus Wheaton, WR, Oregon St.

4th Round (104) Jordan Mills, OT Louisiana Tech

Why: We badly need someone to push Bell at right tackle and potentially push him inside to guard. I don't like the idea of another young player on the line and I do feel like Gettlemen will bring in a vet or two to shore it up but this is the Giant's drafting 101. Take a linemen late and develop him into a starter. I think Mills could be that guy, he's a solid tackle with good size, power, and overall skills. A classic right tackle.

Alternate: Chris Faulk, OT LSU

5th Round (148) Gerald Hodges OLB, Penn ST

Why: We desperately need some quality depth at linebacker. While Senn and Blackburn provide some depth I really feel like we need someone who can come in and play significant time if need be and also groom someone to eventually replace Davis or Beason. Hodges (who we have met with) is a sideline to sideline backer who can deliver a pop. He's a converted safety but has good size and great cover skills. Not to mention he's from linebacker U.

Alternate: Zavier Gooden, LB Missouri

6th Round (182) Steve Williams CB Cal

Why: Can't have to many cornerbacks on this team. Somebody will eventually stand out. Plus it's the Giant way...they love drafting DB's. I looked at the last 10 drafts and they drafted more DB's than any other position. Williams is a small corner but has some skills and is considered a rising prospect. He has some quality speed and may never be more than a nickel or special teamer but I'm sure people thought the same thing about munnerlyn when we drafted him. Plus he's a Cal guy.

Alternate: Demantre Hurst, CB Oklahoma

6th Round (20's) Mychal Rivera, TE Tennessee

Why: I thought about taking a offensive or defensive linemen here and to be honest it wouldn't be a bad idea but I like the idea of adding a hyprid TE with some play making ability to the team. Comparisons of Rivera are someone we all know, Dante Rosario. He can create mismatches and could find a role on the offense as he is moved around and used in a variety of ways.

Alternate: Chris Gragg TE Arkansas

I don't like that you waited so long to get a CB. Plus i don't see a team giving up that many picks to move up 6 spots. but every thing else is pretty good.

I'm thinking st. louis or minnesota trades up so I don't think that's terribly out of the question. And I agree about the CB thing...I think if they don't take one in the first or second round then it will probably be pretty late. I think Gettlemen through a lot of players at WR and CB, I think that will keep them from reaching for either.

      Same. I would prefer a MNF game earlier in the season. As if more likely has some significance in case things go south this season. If we perform well enough we could even get another game forced to a Sunday night spot later in the season.

      Wanted to jump into this thread. Although I do not post anymore I do look in as there are a few old friends around. Loved hearing some of the names you mentioned.  Another  oldie is NanceUSMC.  He is the one who got me here from the old Observer forum.  Good guy and smart football guy. I have learned a lot from a lot of good Huddlers over the years, Over time. we have sadly lost a few who left this earth too soon.  Anyone who know of someone, it would be nice to try to make a list.  One of the more recent, CosmoGirl,  was someone that kind of hit hard.  Life sucks sometimes. Some of the best times were when we had our own tailgate and could meet up in person.  I think it made us better. Several dedicated volunteers, lead by LiverMush, started setting things up in the wee hours of each gameday morning.  Don't know all those regulars but I remember JakeFlake was one.  For you newbies...each game,  a Huddler (or a group) sponsored the food for each tailgate.  Eating was free but a donation was asked for.  At the end of the year those donations were used to buy bicycles for Toys for Tots.  Over the years Huddlers bought a lot of new bikes for kids for Christmas.  (I am guessing a couple of hundred each year.)  We had a good time getting together, got to make friends in person, and then got to feel like you were doing something good. It was truly a community. I got to meet Dan Morgan at one of our tailgates...he brought pizza from his restaurant.  How many of you remember that?  Glad the restaurant did not make it....lol. Not only have people changed, and come and gone.....but the entire nature and purpose has changed. Nothing lasts forever and we move on but we still like to think about good times. Same reason we take pictures. Want to ask a question I have not seen anyone else mention......who remembers    "The Couch" ?  We have argued, laughed, lived the ups and downs of football and dealt with a little real life along the way.  A thanks to  the Mods who keep this going.  I am sure they sacrifice a lot of their time out of love for the forum and the Panthers. Take care my friends and be well.  I will close with my new favorite quote which I think is greatly needed in these difficult times.

      My top-5 JAGS: 1. Tommy Tremble: May not ever be top-tier, but has been solid and you never doubt the effort. 2. Cade Mays: Not bad for a 6th rounder. Hated to see him go. 3. Brady Christensen: One of the most versatile backup OLs in the NFL. Hopefully we re-sign him. 4. Trevis Gipson: Quietly was really solid depth last season. Glad we brought him back. 5. Brycen Tremayne: Has been solid depth at WR, flashing at times last year.
