Lamont Bryant

Recommended Posts

With all this speculation and talk of us taking a WR at #14, a couple interesting tidbits came to mind. In Gettleman's pre-draft presser he mentioned (not in his exact words) that sometimes the talent is already on the roster, like his Victor Cruz comparison. Every NYG fan wanted to take a WR in the draft, but management knew they already had someone special in Cruz. I also remember the AMA on Reddit with Byron Bell and Armond Smith, when asked who was the most underrated player on the roster, Armond mentioned Lamont Bryant was VERY good.

The conspiracy theorist leads me to believe that maybe we already have that WR on the roster (*cough Lamont *cough), with the addition of Ginn and Hixon (and I personally believe Lafell will break out due to a contract year), does this make a WR early in the draft obsolete? I still want a WR in the 2nd round (or at least the 4th) but I personally feel this solidifies our need for a DB at #14.

Anyways just some food for thought. Let the heckling and know-all analysis begin!

i think he's great for the practice squad.

gives the defense a big body to practice against.

beyond that and a couple decent catches in practice...meh. don't understand the hype. just a bunch of wishful thinking.

have at it, tho.

I don't understand the hype with Bryant or Gettis. Like Rayzor said, it's just a bunch of wishful thinking on the fans part. Bryant probably will probably still be on the PS come next year. Hopefully we address the WR position with one of our early draft picks. We don't need to depend on Gettis or Bryant breaking out

My biggest question about Bryant is, is there enough practice time for him to prove he belongs? We have a poo ton of WRs on the roster trying to prove something. It is going to be difficult for any of the bottom feeders to show what they have. I guess, when you get an opportunity. You had better make the most of it. My biggest hope for Bryant is that he put in a poo ton of work in this offseason. He will only get so many chances to show out. I am rooting for him.

Overall I agree with Rayzor's remark, more so wishful thinking on my part.

However, I don't think you can compare Bryant and Gettis as Bryant has yet to showcase his skills in a game atmosphere. Unfortunately, I think Gettis is done in Carolina due to the injury plague, just been out too long.

I think the weapons Cam has this coming year are underrated. Olsen is solid. LaFell was pretty decent last year and I see that only getting better. Add Hixon, and potentially Ginn.. And theres that 1 guy called Smith?

I think.. hope we'll use the run a lot more this year and get back to being as effective as we were a couple years back. We have a beasty offence..

Not saying I wouldn't love a WR in 1st (lemme get TAVON!!) but I wouldn't be pissed if we solidify our D. We rack up the points as it is, we just let too many points in the other way lol.

Bryant could be on the final roster depending on who is cut.

i don't know....if we pick up a WR in the draft, that leaves us with at least smitty, lafell, draft pick, ginn, hixon...that's 5. how many do we go into the season with? won't be more than 6. would bryant beat out any of those 5 guys? doubtful. how about the rest of the guys....gettis, adams, pilares, AE(ok, that last one...probably). it's hard to think that bryant could beat out all those guys. esp. adams since he's just going into his second season.

and then we'll probably pick up another WR as a UDFA. i mean then which "future victor cruz" do you pick? the udfa from last year or the one that gettleman picks this year?

Agree 100% - wouldn't mind a WR in the first two rounds - but I don't feel our need for WR is as big as people think. I would much rather solidify our D and utilize our 3-headed rushing attack more.

    • If we lose tomorrow we’d have to sweep the Bucs in order to get into the playoffs. With a loss tomorrow the Bucs would then hold the tie breaker if we finished tied If we can’t split with NO then we sure as hell not sweeping Tampa It’s win or go home tomorrow in my eyes  Biggest game since 2017 playoff game imo
    • Grok AI: No, there are no credible reports that the Carolina Hurricanes offered Jake Guentzel the same contract terms as Tampa Bay (7 years, $63 million total, $9 million AAV) before he signed with the Lightning. Reliable sources, including The Athletic, consistently reported that Carolina’s offer during negotiations was an eight-year deal worth $64 million ($8 million AAV). Guentzel did not accept it promptly, leading the Hurricanes to trade his negotiating rights to Tampa Bay on June 30, 2024, for a 2025 third-round pick. He then quickly signed the 7x$9M deal with the Lightning on July 1, 2024. Guentzel himself later reflected (in 2025 interviews) that staying in Carolina was his initial preference, but negotiations stalled and “didn’t work out,” with Tampa’s opportunity becoming a “no-brainer.” No reports from outlets like ESPN, NHL.com, or insiders (e.g., Elliotte Friedman, Pierre LeBrun, Frank Seravalli) indicate Carolina ever matched or offered the Lightning’s exact terms—total money, AAV, or length. The extra year was Carolina’s key advantage, but they reportedly stuck closer to $8M AAV and moved on when Guentzel explored options.
