Panthers want Star

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports the Panthers have shown a "lot of interest" in Utah DT Star Lotulelei.

The Panthers are far from settled on the interior of their defensive line, but it would be a major surprise if Lotulelei tumbled all the way to their pick. La Canfora believes Carolina is likely Lotulelei's "floor," meaning he wouldn't fall any further

Pretty much if he's there, he's our pick. Jets said they will pick offesive weapon with 1 of their first rounders. Apparently they after Tavon Austin so looks like Tavon is going to gang green unless someone jumps to #8.

Maybe we see how the draft plays out, and then we try to leap frog a team or two with a fourth round pick or some such if Star makes it that far.

I'm down with that. I still love Allen but I seem to be one of the few people in the world who would take him at 14. Trading back or landing Star seems to be out best bet right now.

I'd be happy with both of those. I think Star is worth an extra mid-round pick, and I think you could get Allen (who I like) while moving back a bit. Gettleman has worked a trade phone, so I'm sure he's no stranger to a deal.

    • There probably isn’t an orthopedic surgery that has had more improvement in technique and outcomes over the last two decades than the acl repair. Because of its importance in pro sports and the sheer number that surgeons do there have been lots of opportunities to practice 1. Better techniques - arthroscopic v open surgery means people heal faster  2. More training - all sports med surgeons have tons of experience doing them 3. better imaging - later generations of mri are more sensitive  4. better therapy - PTs have gotten better at rehabbing them and the theories of rehab have improved a lot. No idea about brooks in particular tho, but I’d describe that overall situation as “not great”
    • If Freeling or either of the Utah OTs dropped to 19 I'd be more than happy honestly. Our OT situation isn't great with an aging Moton at RT and a mess of a situation at LT if Walker goes down at any point in time.  What I'm expecting the Panthers to do is probably draft another weapon like Sadiq or KC Conception. That's been their track record in drafting R1 thus far. None of the defensive talent projected to be around 19 stands out to me. Unless they just want to draft a LB early (Rodriguez,  CJ Allen, Anthony Hill, Jake Gollday).
