ESPN Insider Note On Kenjon Barner

Recommended Posts

Why would he take Tolbert's touchdowns? Will he suddenly morph into a 240 lb. back near the goal line, because that's where Tolbert's scores came from.

what I've seen of barner, in GL and short yardage situations anyway, is an ability to squeeze  tiny holes and bounce around when paths are cut off.

i think that where he might vulture TDs is inside the 20. the kid is capable of making some  big gains in   hurry. i can see him getting a good number of TDs without a lot of carries. probably williams and stewart between the 20s, barner in the red zone, and  tolbert in goalline and yardage situations.

uhh not when it matters.. we finally have a perinnial-playoff caliber team now and if hes been getting hurt lately you can hardly call him durable. Even so, DWill > Stew as a complete RB.

Healthy? Stewart > Williams. Which is why Stewart is the preferred RB the last 2 seasons. He is more diverse...

If anything, a healthy J. Stew would eat into Tolbert's TDs.

i dunno, i think stewart is their between the 20s guy. he got the bulk of the work heading into the red zone and williams and tolbert got the bulk inside the 20.

I agree. Can even go back to 2011. Stewart just allows the offense to function better which is why he saw so much time on the field in 2011 and Rivera wanted him there in 12.

I think Stewart simply will be our main RB and get the bulk between the 20s. Cam, Tolbert and a little Williams inside the 20. I would be very surprised if Williams played a lot of snaps with a healthy roster

As a fan, I really want this kid to make the team. Him and Adams fighting it out to get touches could be an exciting scenario. Adams in the slot with Barner in the back field could be a potential nightmare for Ds. Let them be moving when they get the ball, use those open field moves as an actual weapon.

Smitty and Lafell on the outside. Adams in the slot, and Barner out of the backfield could be explosive. Throw in Olsen. That, my friends, is what we call in the fan biz, Reason to be optimistic.

can't see how you feel that way considering Stew has been a better back catching passes out of the backfield and better between the tackles...

but to each their own...

Unfortunately I don't think it saves any cap. I'd be all for it though.

it would have to be a part of a two-three year plan. cut dwill this year june 1 and save  few mil. the next year cut stewart june  first....or maybe the next year so we don't have to swallow two halves of those cap hits.

    • I was playing around with the ESPN playoff predictor and it shows if 49ers and Rams finish with same record, the Rams hold the tiebreaker.
    • This is my thinking as well. Seattle played as good as they could on defense and Panthers still had a chance until those back to back turnovers.  I don't think the Rams played particularly well in their game against us, alot things went our way in order to win.  Someone pointed out the Rams were bad on the east coast road games and Seattle has been the better road team but they just fought a hard contested game against the Panthers, and now they travel to San Fran this week for their biggest game of the season to determine the division and if they are the overall #1 seed in the NFC or will be traveling for the Wildcard weekend.  If they lose they then travel back cross the country to play a team they've just beaten two weeks ago, not saying they won't be favored against the Panthers but the energy of hosting our first playoff game in 10 years along with the get back effect of having just lost to this team could be huge.
    • I don’t know about shadowing and all that, but according to this, whatever we are doing is working
