Gettlemen continues to get criticism for not bringing in a WR

That's something you have to think about if your Gettleman unless you plan to keep Rivera regardless of this seasons outcome

Well I do not doubt he has considered the possibility, but he cannot stop doing his job.

His sole purpose at this time though is to provide his current head coach with all the tools to win effectively.

He still isn't done acquiring players either, there will be plenty of cuts in the coming months.

Its like I am taking crazy pills!!  What the hell else would you have rather Gettlemen done!  There wasn't appropriate value in the draft, and the FAs available either weren't an upgrade or wanted too much money!

IS HE SUPPOSED TO CRAP OUT ANOTHER STEVE SMITH?????

What is wrong with you people!!

http://thefanhub.com/posts/detail/993529/Chargers-could-clear-1.5M-by-cutting-Royal

Could be another cheap option if he's cut. Maybe a trade for a late round pick (6th).

The Chargers could save $1.5 million against the salary cap by releasing Eddie Royal.

Royal and Robert Meachem were signed to multi-year contracts last spring, and both were colossal busts in 2012. Royal seemed to always be battling a hamstring injury, and he finished the season with just 23 grabs for 234 yards and one touchdown in ten games played. The Chargers now have depth at the position, and the team could use some money to go get a free agent left tackle like Max Starks.

forcing an offense in to a situation where they have to play error-free football in order to have a chance at winning is 1. unrealistic and 2. unsustainable. that's the falcons' problem and ultimately what bit them in the ass in the playoffs. they blew big second half leads in two straight games and it cost them a trip to the super bowl when they ran up against the 49ers in the NFC championship game.

fielding a defense that can give our quarterback as many possessions as possible and can mitigate mistakes by limiting points off turnovers is useful and it's something that wins games in this league.

Drafting Star....doesn't give us that type D. Most likely. Most likely he will take a year or so....and we saw last season that even with GREAT QB pressure....a pooty secondary is still a pooty secondary.

Cam needs weapons. That IMO is the easiest way to win. Who are our TD scorers....we don't have them. That isn't really Smith at this stage. Nor is Olsen going to go all Gronk on the league. We need more

Not double down on DTs.

You aren't going to crap out another Steve Smith drafting only 2 WRs in the 2nd round in the first two rounds over 15 seasons. That isn't investing enough in WR talent to get lucky

Fug Eddie Royal!

Like I said earlier, our only possibility is prying Kenny Britt out of Tennessee and even that's a risk! But he is the only no.1 WR talent-wise that I can see us landing before the season starts!

Y'all think I'm nuts, but Beason for Britt! Make it happen Gman!

With Britt, we know what we have. When healthy, he’s both supremely talented, and supremely stupid. He’s been arrested several times, and he’s had multiple knee injuries (two surgeries last year) which led to a 13-game absence in 2011. What’s frustrating, though, is that during Britt’s highly shortened 2011 season, he already logged 271 receiving yards and three touchdowns over just two games.

He struggled heavily with those same knee issues throughout this past season while averaging just 42.1 yards per game. But that burst still surfaced sporadically, though at this point you may have better odds of finding Big Foot and the Lochness Monster playing chess (Britt had 143 yards in Week 14 against the Colts).

We have drafted 5 WRs over the last 3 years!!!!!!!

They are all still on the team

Adams, Armanti, Pilares, Gettis, and Lafell

only one plays

yea teams have to game plan for those guys. 3 of those were taken in one draft and the highest was a fuging 3rd rounder.

Hey, I didn't say it was our best option! It's just probably our only option if we have any desire to add any potential no.1 WR to our roster before Training Camp.

The need a legit MLB..........we have an extra

We need a legit #1WR........they have an extra

Will not hurt my feelings if we don't and will not hurt my feelings if we do.

Let's trade problems

Here's the thing guys...

DT has been a weakness of this team ever since we traded Kris Jenkins to the Jets.  At least we've had Steve Smith at WR.  Gettleman came from an organization that clearly valued building a strong DL.  Star at #14 was an absolute no brainer.  He was the best player available and he addressed a huge need.  I don't think anyone has a problem with that pick.  I understand some questioning the Short pick at #44, but even with Star in the fold, we still had a need at DT.  Star and Short should form a formidable pair of DTs for us.  Plus, what WR would you have rather had at #44?  Woods went off the board at #41 and the next WR that went was Aaron Dobson at #59 and he was the only WR that went between #44 and the end of the 2cd.  Let's see, reach on a WR or take a better prospect at another position of need?

I was a little surprised we double dipped at DT, but I posted prior to the draft that it wouldn't shock me.  As far as free agency goes, we didn't have much money to play with.  I think Gettleman sees Smitty as still a legit #1, LaFell a decent #2, then we have a bevy of guys to compete for the rest of the roster - including Hixon and Ginn who he brought in via free agency.  With the cap situation he inherited, that's about the best he was gonna do.

I fully expect us to try to find a successor to Smitty this coming off-season, be it FA, the draft, or both.  The way the chips fell this year, it made sense to bolster our DL.  I expect us to really look at OT and WR next year.
