Panthers on Cowboys Board

So they had Star ranked third best DT?

They did, but they ONLY ranked players they knew they wanted on their team.

Due to the players they already have and their switch to a 4 -3, Star is the only pure NT listed, the other DTs are stronger UT.

I actually find this quite interesting. Everyone gave them crap for the Center pick (myself included), but they actually had Frederick listed as a second round pick. The problem was that all 18 of their first round graded guys went ahead of them (as well as some 2nd round grades) and Frederick was the BPA on their board.

Though what's odd is that they didn't follow this strategy throughout, since after Frederick Terrance Williams was their next highest ranked player and he was there at their second pick, but they passed on him for Escobar (though they did still end up with Williams in the 3rd). They also let Barkley and Nassib slide to the 4th despite having 2nd round grades on them.

I understand it's situational, but why even rank guys so high if you're not gonna draft them when their available for your next two picks? Instead they took J.J. Wilcox, whom they only had a 3rd round grade for. It makes sense for them to amend the BPA philosophy and not take a QB in the 2nd or 3rd, but why not do that in the first as well and not take a center?

The real strange thing is they had Floyd as a top 5 guy and they had him sitting there at 18 but they traded down to get the center... Talk about sticking to your board lol

Yeah I didn't even think about them trading down. So they were sitting at 18 and had exactly 18 guys ranked as first rounders, so they would get one of their first round guys regardless (would've have the option of Floyd, Rhodes, Patterson, Eifert, and Werner). Basically they planned their entire board (well, the first round) around their 18th pick...I'm thinking you should consider other options (a la, a trade down) when filling out these things, but that's just me.

    • I don’t care about him one way or another  My observation of,him, at a pivotal moment in his life,  goes like this  32 teams in the nfl  passed on him through what, 4 plus rds, in a league in need of qbs…….and none drafted him….  Then a  perennial   1. Super Bowl, contender,   2. with a dynamic qb that gets injured because of his type of play, meaning Sanders could be showcased as a backup on a team that actually has talent  3. and which has a good coaching staff that help him grow his skills 4 that isn’t a laughing stock where qbs go to die  calls and says, ‘we are drafting you’ …and Sanders says to,Baltimore,  ‘naw man, I’m good here’  ..got what he deserved for a poor career decision and what he got was Cleveland  he made his own bed  as for the Panthers franchise, no… no distractions and there  are plenty of qbs that don’t have baggage, get one of those     .
    • Did Bryce Young have a list of teams he wouldn’t play for? You are mad because he earned being a top college recruit and the top pick in the draft. So weird. Any “competitive hurdle” placed between a #1 overall pick and the starting job is a farce and everybody knows it. What you are talking about is the coach and team playing make believe just for appearances sake. The competitive hurdle already happened in putting out the college tape to be the #1 pick. What is the point in comparing these 2 completely different QBs and situations? Oh yeah, just another opportunity to whine about Bryce Young.
    • How many 2Cs have more points than him?
