Pro Football Weekly bites the dust

Mr. Scot is not going to like this.

The draft preview was only one aspect of their publications.  Outside of that, they had the best football coverage anywhere.  Loads of inside input from coaches and GMs and a staff of writers that won awards on an annual basis.  In the 80s and 90s, nobody could match them for football info.

But things have changed...

To be clear, controversy didn't do them in.  They've been in decline pretty much since the early 2000s.  Being a high-priced weekly print publication for a niche market in an age of all-digital is what got them, and they probably won't be the last.

Hate to see it, but it's not exactly a shock.  Heck, even a major publication like Newsweek has given up on weekly printing, and plenty of major newspapers are losing money hand over fist.  PFW was trying to transition, but they started too late in the game and were slow to lower prices.  Ultimately, income just couldn't keep up with expenses.

I wonder how long it'll be before print publications are entirely a thing of the past.

Sad Panda is sad.

race and sport come hand in hand, he'll sure be hired by another medium to bring us our annual doze of black quarterback bashing.

The Huddle is a lot like herpes. Sure, it's irritating and sometimes painful... But it ain't going nowhere.

I see what you did there. Lol

You're right. I scoffed at the price. It was outrageous this day in time. They were hard-headed and paid the ultimate high price for their greed and failure to fit in with the modern world.

I don't think that print publications will go away entirely as all they have to do is offer some unique and/or exclusive content that is priced at a value.  As long as I can get ESPN's Mag for 30 something cents per issue for a year or two, I will continue to get it because I enjoy the human interest stories (as well as the trivia and other odd stats about sports of all sorts), not to mention The Insider comes free with the subscription.  You really can't beat it.

Their website had such a weird layout and then awkwardly tried to put video on there.

I am sure Nolan will land somewhere or startup a niche Football publication like "White QB weekly" or "Work hard: a white athlete tale"

Either way he should be in a scene involving complaining about the holes in his hood before a raid.
