53 Man Roster......Not the first and surely not the last...

Recommended Posts

My current 53

I think with the addition of Ginn and Barner its over for Adams and Edwards

QB- Newton, Anderson

RB- Williams, Stewart, Tolbert

WR- Smith, LaFell,  Hixon, Gettis

TE- Olsen, Hartsock, Rosario

T-Gross, Bell, Chandler, G. Williams. Campbell

G-Silatolu, Hangartner, Kugbila, Wells

C- Kalil, Byers

DT- Lotulelei, Edwards, Short, Gaydosh, Cole

DE- Johnson, Hardy, Roh, Alexander

LB- Beason, Kuechly, Davis, Klein, Blackburn, Senn

CB- Drayton, Thomas, Norman, Munnerlyn, Moore, White

S- Godfrey, Mitchell, Campbell, Lester

LS- Janson

P- Nortman

K- Gano

KR- Barner

PR- Ginn

BOLD = Starter

Cameron will replace Clausen as #3 but on PS.

Gaydosh will beat out Fua

**Ginn also part of WR corps**

**Barner also part of RB corps**

***Chandler will be emergency DT***

If White and Lester are on this list because exposing them to the Practice Squad could be dangerous.  Most seem to believe they are steals of the draft.

we're carrying 11 o-line? no. 1 fs? no. clausen's contract is essentially fully guaranteed & nakamura has 700k salary vs 700 dead money (you pay him 700k to not play + cost of carrying that other fs's contract), so they'll make the team even though they aren't fan faves.

A lot of stuff wrong with this roster. We won't take 11 O-Linemen. 9/10 at most. No way we keep 5 DTs. 4 at most. Adams is not getting cut after one season. We will probably only have 5 CBs on the 53 man roster. Clausen will still be on the team.

This thread is rather pointless at the moment as Gettleman is likely to bring in a couple of vets to fill some holes.

99.9% of all threads started between now and training camp are for the most part pointless and full of conjecture.  But at least it kills time and gives us something to talk about.  Alternative would be to shut down the message board, or, better yet, simply choose not to read the thread.

That said, I think speculating about the roster does help to show where our holes are.  I may not agree with the the number of OL and details but I do think we have problems with depth in the secondary and on the OL.  Not sure Gettis gets a helmet this year either.

I think we take 5 DT ... We have 2 premier DE that will be on the field most of the time while having 2 solid backup ...this year strength is in the DT Which will help in rotation......I believe Star &KK also have experience playing DE

We took 5 DTs and 4 DEs last year. If we follow that this year (not saying we will), I could see Star, Edwards, KK, Cole, and Fua/Gaydosh/Walker round out the DTs. DEs: CJ, Hardy, Alexander and Addison/a vet camp cut/someone who shows well in camp to fill the DE spots.

Just wanted to point out..

Gettleman said repeatedly that the kick returner will be one dude having BOTH duties. Trying to save a roster spot.

Ginn > Barner anyways

Well if Gett brings Ginn in as a WR, then he already has a roster spot. Then keep Barner as 3rd RB and tolbert as FB. But then again like you said he may want to save an extra spot for a lineman like gaydosh or cole. That way he can keep more d-lineman. Do we normally keep 3 RBs . I mean, with there history it wouldn't be dumb. U waive barner, he is gone.

I dont see Barner being cut. Him and Ginn will be on the roster, thats stupid.

JStew, DWill,Tolbert and Barner are all definite. Armond Smith and Tauren Poole are going to have to find a spot on the PS. Yeah, separating KR and PR are pointless at this point, Ginn and Barner will make it

    • It's funny how the teams with the great QBs stay at or near the top of the league every season.  Yes it is a team game, but the QB has the biggest impact in most NFL football games.
    • Look, no one is ever a perfect player.  Since the QB handles the ball on 100% of plays offensively (unless there's a direct snap to a RB or something), I can absolutely see where they get an outsized blame and gain from what happens at any given snap of a football game.   Theoretically, there shouldn't even be a stat or idea to a 4th quarter comeback or game winning drive because you should already have done that during the game.  Losers!  Right?  Just because you win late doesn't take away the fact you tried to lose the game for your team! I'm not a fan of that opinion, but again, I'm just a moron with a keyboard.   Bryce has limited tools.  Bryce has not inspired the same level of confidence in us as Cam Newton did in year 3.  I certainly get that.  We traded a TON of assets to get Bryce, and we still suck.  (I mean, since we've lost games, we're losers right?) I completely understand that some fans are just unhappy with a limited QB and a team that isn't performing well, unless the other teams are worse losers than we are. I will say this:  Bryce will fight until the end.  Sure, he's has some real loser football.   But in close games, he's doing his best to comeback (even against a winner of prevent D). Now is it better or worse if your QB plays their best ball in the first half and sucks 2nd half so long as they finish with 300 yards, 3 TDs for your fantasy points? Who said stats are for winners anyway?  The Panthers and Bryce has a long way to go.  I'm enjoying the winning right now.  Though I do start each game thinking "how will we fug this up today?" Because it's been such a poo show in the Tepper era.  Will he prove to be a legit starting NFL QB?  Maybe not here as evidence by our record with QBs who were high draft picks.
    • Ive never liked the term game winning drives because they include games where the QB was part of or was the reason the team was behind in the first place. Ive been arguing against this stat since the Delhomme years. It should only count when the QB is out of the equation of reasons why the team fell behind in the first place and is at least half the reason why he led the last drive to give them a lead. It shouldnt count if they just hand it off most of the time and the RB is on fire and they go down and score a TD or FG.
