Three UDFA making the team?

Recommended Posts

It is possible that three UDFAs make the team.  All Defensive too.  I think 2 of 3 mentioned below will.

Always have to clarify that I know this is without Pads but that is all we have to go by, for now at least.

Lester - For whatever reason 32 teams passed on this guy thru 7 rounds.  His times were similiar to Vaccaro's.  I know he chose Carolina over a number of other teams because he felt he could compete for a positon here better than anywhere else.  He has good size, has football savvy and started 3 years at a program that has won 3 of the past 4 National Titles.   I say his chances are pretty high that he will make this team.  Rivera commented on how well he was doing.  When they get him in pads, I think we are going to see why he was a started at the NFL Players factory known as Alabama.

Gaydosh - Good measurables.  I was surprised to see the numbers he posted at the Canadian combine.  I think they said he would have been 3rd on Reps at 225 at our combine.  He is strong, quick and seems to get it.  Barring injury of Star, KK, Edwards and Cole, I think he will battle hard and win against Fua for the 5th defensive tackle position. (If we keep 5 DTs)

White - Another good sized DCB 6-1 205,  The guy is another Rook that impressed Rivera.  Louisiana Lafayette isn't your football factory but with some good NFL coaching he might surprise someone and make the roster. At minimum as a special teams player and maybe a nickle spot forcing Moore off the team.  I just don't see the need for more than 2 Nickle CBs.  IMO he'll have the toughest time making the team but could very easily show he is better than the bottom portion of our defensive backfield line up.   The only thing that keeps him off the roster is his inexperience.

My prediction is

Lester easily wins a spot as a backup Safety

Gaydosh We keep 5 DTs and he beats out FUA for the final DT spot.

White has a good preseason and we'll try to stash him on the PS  (Unsuccessfuly)

Offensively do we have anyone that impressed?  The only name I have heard is Bersin and that is only because he is an alum of Wofford.   I like the guy and I am pulling for him.  His chances are slim.

Are there any other UDFA that truly have a chance?  Technically all do but any that can seriously challenge for a spot?

Go Panthers

Do you see us keeping on 4 DTs (Star, KK, Edwards, Cole) or 5 including Fua?

Think he will give Fua a run for his money?

I personally think we will keep 4 DT's and 5 DE's this season....both Hardy and CJ can slide inside when needed on passing downs.  that gives us more flexibility on the DLine.

Gaydosh is likely heading to the PS.

White is ??  I like what we have seen and heard from him.  But, there is a log jam of good young players at DB.  Will be tough to see him unseat one of them for a roster spot.  The DB battle is definitely one to watch in TC.

I want Fua gone- badly, but I think he'll find a way to stick.

Edwards

Star

KK

Kearse

Gaydosh

This is what I'd like to see.

From what I understand Cole seems to be his old self again.  Another run stopping DT.

I heard more about Gaydosh than Kearse or Fua combined.  Granted it is shorts but still.

I like Star, KK, Edwards, Cole, Gaydosh..

Ah, I forgot all about Cole and I'm really excited about him.

So I'd do this-

Star- KK- Edwards-Cole and Kearse with Gaydosh to the PS.

Gaydosh is too intriguing for me to want to cut. I do think there's a learning curve technique wise, but I think he was the physical tools to be damn good. I like Kearse, but I'd lose him at the expense of Gaydosh if I had to.

    • It's funny how the teams with the great QBs stay at or near the top of the league every season.  Yes it is a team game, but the QB has the biggest impact in most NFL football games.
    • Look, no one is ever a perfect player.  Since the QB handles the ball on 100% of plays offensively (unless there's a direct snap to a RB or something), I can absolutely see where they get an outsized blame and gain from what happens at any given snap of a football game.   Theoretically, there shouldn't even be a stat or idea to a 4th quarter comeback or game winning drive because you should already have done that during the game.  Losers!  Right?  Just because you win late doesn't take away the fact you tried to lose the game for your team! I'm not a fan of that opinion, but again, I'm just a moron with a keyboard.   Bryce has limited tools.  Bryce has not inspired the same level of confidence in us as Cam Newton did in year 3.  I certainly get that.  We traded a TON of assets to get Bryce, and we still suck.  (I mean, since we've lost games, we're losers right?) I completely understand that some fans are just unhappy with a limited QB and a team that isn't performing well, unless the other teams are worse losers than we are. I will say this:  Bryce will fight until the end.  Sure, he's has some real loser football.   But in close games, he's doing his best to comeback (even against a winner of prevent D). Now is it better or worse if your QB plays their best ball in the first half and sucks 2nd half so long as they finish with 300 yards, 3 TDs for your fantasy points? Who said stats are for winners anyway?  The Panthers and Bryce has a long way to go.  I'm enjoying the winning right now.  Though I do start each game thinking "how will we fug this up today?" Because it's been such a poo show in the Tepper era.  Will he prove to be a legit starting NFL QB?  Maybe not here as evidence by our record with QBs who were high draft picks.
    • Ive never liked the term game winning drives because they include games where the QB was part of or was the reason the team was behind in the first place. Ive been arguing against this stat since the Delhomme years. It should only count when the QB is out of the equation of reasons why the team fell behind in the first place and is at least half the reason why he led the last drive to give them a lead. It shouldnt count if they just hand it off most of the time and the RB is on fire and they go down and score a TD or FG.
