Am I the only Panther fan that would sign Hakeem Nicks over Hardy?

As long as he can stay healthy I would love Nicks but with the money he is going to command I think we would be better off drafting Smittys replacement.  I would wait to reserve judgement on Hardy till after this year, he really does not have much of a track record yet.

I think I'll put my faith in Gettleman's experience and trust him to find an answer at WR. I like what he has done so far as regards addressing deficiencies on the team. I also think that Hardy brings a nastiness to the defense that is a crucial element to them becoming the kind of squad we all want them to be. That being the case, I say keep him if it is in any way feasible. I have confidence David Gettleman will find a way to fix the WR situation and keep Kraken happy too.

I think getting a quality number 1 guy is critical to the teams future. Assuming the improvement for Frank Alexander we have a good replacement for Hardy but zero options at WR.

So WR easily. A lot of Huddlers are in love with the character that is Greg Hardy.

This. Coming from the Giants, Gettleman has experience scouting successful NFL receivers. I will trust that he can make the right call until he shows otherwise.

It's not so much the position, its the player mentioned.   The question was Hakeem Nicks over Greg Hardy, I think for most of us that aren't Tarheel fans the answer would be Hardy.  If you are saying Premium Sure fired healthy number 1# WR over Greg Hardy I think it would be different answers.

Where is this assumption that Alexander can replace Hardy coming from?  Alexander looked like he could develop into something last year, but his rookie year <<< Hardy's rookie year.  Judging off of both stats and the eyeball test.

We have an option at WR: the draft.

DE is so much more important than WR this shouldn't even be up for debate.

If the question were AJ Green or Hardy, I'd have to go with Green.  Julio Jones too, probably.  Most anyone else I'd still take the more valuable, harder position to fill and keep Hardy.

Yep I think that would be an interesting discussion.  Is DE a harder position to fill than WR?  How about money wise?  Premium WR for Premium DE?  Age?  What if we could get Larry Fritzgerald who is still a really good WR for Hardy?

In my opinion it would have to take a really, really good WR to make it seem worth it to get rid of Hardy.  But sooner or later that #1 WR position has to be addressed.

What character issues has Hardy ever exhibited?

Your joking right? Dropped to the 6th round with motor questions. Texted a photo of himself going 130mph. Challenged Ray Edwards to a boxing match. Wrecked a motorcycle and missed training camp. Posts on twitter he is hanging out at Picasso's and everyone should come join him. Talks trash in the media.

He isn't a Aaron Hernandez, in fact I enjoy most of his shenanigans. But he is very unpredictable. It's a little harder to bet the house on a loose cannon.

lol, the only one of those that's even close to a character concern is the going 130 mph photo, and even that would be fine if it were done in a legal setting.  Assuming it wasn't, speeding being his greatest sin speaks to how little concern there should be for his character....

Motor questions have been resoundingly disproven.  Being in an automobile wreck is a character concern?!  Ludicrous.  Hanging out and talking trash is a character concern?!!?  This is the NFL, not a convent.

I think DE is a harder position to fill than WR.  Look at how many elite DEs there are in the league vs elite WRs.  Allen, Peppers, Johnson, JPP, I'm having difficulty thinking of any more.  Not gonna include Hardy as an elite based off 1 year, but the potential is there.  There's plenty of elite WRs: Megatron, Andre Johnson, Green, Fitzgerald, Smitty, as much as I hate it I'd be inclined to include R. White and J. Jones, Vincent Jackson is borderline, Brandon Marshall is borderline, the list goes on.

The only WR that's gotten paid even close to a comparable DE is Fitzgerald, and that's because his agent and the Cardinals both knew that he's their entire offense.  He got something like $15mil a year.  Most elite WRs in their prime get around $10mil.  An elite DE is his prime will get $15mil and up.  I think the contract we offered Peppers a few years ago was around $16mil a year.

I'm not certain how many more years Fitz has, but I could be convinced he has enough to make a swap of Hardy for him worth it.  However, I'd rather just try to draft our next #1.  Assuming we do reasonably well this year and have a lower draft pick, I'd be more than fine with Gettleman trading up to the 8-13 range to grab an elite WR prospect.  Might take our 2nd round pick also, but it'd be worth it.
