We cut him because he had a bad 2011 and was swiss cheese. Why would we sign him at any price? We can do better.......

we cut him because his cap hit was too damn high. He was a great guard.

No he wasn't a great guard in 2011.  His cap number was a problem because he was not that productive.  Look at Charles Johnson's cap number which is the highest on the team for 2013 at 13 million. Why was he not cut this offseason?  His production justified his cap number.

Wharton was decent run blocking at 2.9 according to PFF but had a -7.9 in pass protection for an overall grade of -1.8 in 2011. He didn't allow a lot of sacks but guards usually don't as they are blocking DTs not DEs.

If Cincy thought he was too injured to keep this year, then why should we take a chance on him??

100% correct.  We haven't filled that void since releasing him.  Hangman isn't bad either and is a solid #2 center.  Hangman got a decent contract from Buffalo which made him too expensive for us.  Both were good players that left the Panthers for money.  If Wharton is healthy, he provides depth at OT as well.

Sign him if healthy.

    • After last season, it was the same question. And the answer most people came to was "If he doesn't make the playoffs, he's gone." He made the playoffs. No matter how it was done, we made it to the playoffs. He's safe. He's going to have a chance to keep working this out, even if next season isn't a playoff one.  I think we'll do better next year than we did this season. There's something being built here.
    • The NBA is a very fickle league. Kon is one of the hottest rookies in years and beyond just his play on the court he is a very steady competitor and that translates to the rest of the team. That has been a glaring absence with the culture of this franchise through the bulk of the LaMelo Ball years that's just being completely blunt and realistic. The enigma of LaMelo Ball is he is entering year 6 and still either red hot or ice cold. We need him to find that sweet spot. Logic dictates the Hornets will want to see this core again next year. But the clock is beyond ticking at this point. It's put up or shut up. Especially considering what the Thunder managed to do recently. I'm hopeful they can keep these wins rolling in and get some much needed playoff experience under their belts which will help substantially.
    • I think as long as the Panthers are competitive with Canales they should keep him. Pepper needs to repair his/the teams image as a place prized free agents aren't hesitant to consider. Just dont do any crazy poo for a few years.
