Guard depth (sweet mother of Moses)

SCP

Recommended Posts

Silatolu (LG starter) 6'4" 315lbs

Hangartner (RG starter) 6'5" 305lbs

Then we have this depth, all of which is very inexperienced.

Hayworth Hicks 6'3" 330lbs. from Iowa State (2 years NFL camp experience)

Edmund Kugbila 6'4" 325lbs. from DII Valdosta State (Rookie)

Tori Mobley 6'3" 300lbs. from DIAA Jacksonville State (Rookie)

Justin Wells 6'4" 325lbs. from CIAA St Augustine (1 year NFL camp experience)

Gary Williams 6'3" 315lbs. (5 years NFL experience who played like poo at RG last year)

Gettelman has to be looking to bring in a vet. I mean if we suffer an injury to our starters the middle of our offense is in deep poo.

Well, we talked about both our lines needing help all last year. All we had done to address the O was Kugbilla. Thats pretty much saying alright lets go get this guy and patch it up for a year with a vet. You would have to think that Gettles waited til now to bet on the market rewarding us with a cheap vet, but damn, just pick someone up.

I'm not sure what vet guards are on the bubble but the FA market is basically an empty cupboard. Cam was hit a lot last year. But if Shula is wanting to run like he says he does then vet help is a necessity unless Kugbila just flat out surprises.

There just no way a d2 guy is gonna come in and hold up. His body isnt ready, he doesnt know the playbook yet, never played with the guys before much less anything close to this level. He needs a year to adapt. What Amini did last year is nothing short of beastly and should not be expected of Kugbilla. We need a vet now.

There is no reason he couldn't play to Amini's level. I certainly don't want to rely on both of those young guys at the same time though.

And lets try to remember that the best o-lineman we have was sidelined all of last year.  Kalil is extremely important to the continuity of that line.  With Kalil back at center a second year vet at LG, Gross being more comfortable with what he's doing, not trying to help so much, and Bell being another year in, we may just be able to stick the freakishly athletic Kugbilla in and do well.

    • The new (released today) FOX ONE app will allow you access to watch your Local FOX Station - similar to how the Paramount Plus app allows you access to watch your local CBS station It'll cost you $20/month for the privilege, but if you're having trouble accessing the over-the-air antenna for FOX, this could be an option to consider the new ESPN app will give you access to ESPN content, but not to the local ABC affiliate. A reminder: if you currently get ESPN via some TV provider (cable, satellite, youtube, etc) then you should be able to use the new ESPN app via your provider login, no additional payment required
    • Not even close!!! BURNS was a one trick pony who had a big game or two a year in the sack collum and was invinsible the rest of the time....   Heck hes gonna be the Giants fourth best rusher this year.
    • XL went to one of the worst teams in the NFL.  One that features a weak passing O and bad overall QB play on the season.   XL is getting way too much hate IMO.   He had an okay rookie season all things considered.   Very much on par w/ prospects that projected around the same area with him.   Panthers made a 2nd rounder a first round technicality for that contract.  XL also getting this weird kicker type blame for games.  XL somehow single handedly lost us games on one play.....and then we ignore the rest of the team that went about losing the game for 4 quarters.   Should he of caught the Philly ball? 100%.  The O and D still played like garbage that entire game.  Even after the drop, Panthers had two shots starting w/ a 3rd and 4 to convert.  They kept playing bad instead.  And even if we XL made the play....Philly would have had a minute and half to get into FG range to win it.  Who is banking on the Panther D getting that stop?  also, I am deemed Mr. Negative, yet here I am defending a no good dirty Gamecock lol
