Panthers Release Hangartner

He is a great backup tho, why release him? Getts can go out and get his 33 year old Wharton and 33 year old Brandon Moore all he wants.

$2 million (just under) is a high salary for a backup.  33, by the way, is not too old for a lineman.  THe upsdie is gone, but many last until their mid thirties.

This is definitely a shock but now we know Gettleman is going to get more O-line help whether its during the coming weeks or towards the end of the final trim down of roster cuts. I just hope we bring in players that can really help and improve the ride side.

everyone keeps saying we have no money we have no money, well how the hell are we going to sign a quality guard if we have no money? Cutting Hangman was stupid.

"Everyone" is not saying we have no money.

Yes, there are challenges ahead just like most other teams face. Gettleman moved our cap by roughly $28 million this offseason, and on paper our team is better at several positions. I'm not going to worry that we still need a starting guard (a low cost position).

It would be funny if it was the latter.

"No Joe, we're not signing Travelle"

*10 Minutes Later

"Carolina Panthers sign Travelle Wharton"

Joe: "WTF GUYS? You said you weren't signing him!"

Staff: "Whaaat? No, no, Joe. We said we are not, not signing him. You must have misheard us. Also, we are signing Clausen to a long term contract. Feel free to run that story exclusively!"

Great backup but over 3 mil in cap space for the next two years. Read my 2014 cap analysis thread and you'll see how much trouble we are in.

Despite what it looks like we have no cap room this year because we need it to carry over for next year. Want a vet guard? Gotta clear the cap space to sign one.

Read. We cleared money by cutting Hangman which will be used to sign his replacement. We wont spend much more if any than we saved.

Ahh it's like a breath of fresh air to have GM that is a real talent evaluator and doesn't settle for less.

For too long the Panthers have had people on the roster starting who wouldn't even be 3rd string on some teams. I can't even remember the last time this team had any depth and just in one offseason alone he has already made moves to bolster the roster.

I'm pretty sure Gettleman has seen the issues with the O-Line and is addressing it just like he has every other position.

first questionable move by gettleman imo. Gross and Kalil were really really good friends with Hangman. Having continuity and meshing well is arguably the most important aspect of an offensive line.

I agree, but sentimentality is what has held the Panthers back in the past. Time we had a GM that will look at the business side first, and that time comes to every player.

we need to add another vet lineman- apparently Rivera and co. were not pleased with Hangman's play during training camp. He's a great guy, but were trying to win. In order to win, Cam can't be running for his life all the time.
