Cam Newton & Steve Smith Interview

Johnny Rockets

Recommended Posts

So I scrolled through and didn't see a thread on this (lock away if it is old news) but Cam and Steve did an interview on "The Drive" yesterday afternoon that was worth a listen to. There is a video of the interview on the link below. Cam really did a good job and it will be hard for any of his detractors not to see him in a different light after this or at least that is the opinion I came away with. Of course all of what he says needs to translate out on the field but it seems like he is really ready to go this year.

Enjoy:

While at the Carolina Panthers Training Camp in Spartanburg, SC, Cam Newton talked with WFNZ’s “The Drive” alongside wide receiver veteran Steve Smith about the criticism he’s experienced over the past few years, the chemistry he has formed with his wide receivers, and what he needs to do to be a successful quarterback in the league.

Steve Smith, who co-hosts on “The Drive” in the off-season, even got a chance to interview Cam next to him and talk about how Newton has progressed with his leadership skills on the Panthers team.

The book Cam mentions is a self-help about interpersonal skills, effective leadership, and personal development. Regardless of the effectiveness of the book, I'm impressed that Cam is working hard at improving himself as a person and not just as a football player.

Wow a video player worse than our own site's.

Yea I can't watch it.  Everytime i play it  it plays for about 30 seconds then a fuging ad comes on, restarts the video and 30 seconds later i get hit with an ad again.

For me, it gets through about 6-7 min before the page just randomly reloads. fuging annoying.

I couldnt hear them because of all the yelling in the background. You would think they would have people be quiet when they are interviewing two star players...

On the radio you couldn't hear any of that. It really would be good if they had a podcast of the audio on these interviews instead of just a video option.

    • Another source: NFL Rumors: Hakeem Butler to Visit Panthers After UFL Success, Wade Phillips' Praise ZACH BACHAR JUNE 10, 2024 The Carolina Panthers are expected to conduct a workout with UFL wide receiver Hakeem Butler, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. Butler recorded a league-leading 652 receiving yards as a member of the St. Louis Battlehawks. He was previously a fourth-round draft pick by the Arizona Cardinals in 2019. After the Battlehawks were defeated by the San Antonio Brahmas in the XFL Conference title game, Brahmas head coach and longtime NFL coach Wade Phillips told the receiver that "I'm going to tell everybody in the NFL that I talk to that you need to be playing," via Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk. Despite the loss by St. Louis, Butler still hauled in six receptions for a team-high 59 receiving yards. The 28-year-old was named the 2024 UFL Offensive Player of the Year, as he was one of only two wideouts to have multiple games with at least 100 receiving yards. While the Panthers added Diontae Johnson and first-round rookie Xavier Legette to their wide receiver room in the offseason, they could still use some depth in the form of Butler. Carolina isn't opposed to picking up former UFL players, as Rapoport revealed on Thursday that the team is also "expected" to sign All-UFL receiver Daewood Davis. Although Butler was selected by the Cardinals in the 2019 draft, he did not play as a rookie due to a hand injury and only appeared in two regular-season games as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles in 2020. He did not record a catch. Butler signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers during the 2023 offseason, although he ultimately didn't make the team's regular-season roster. At 6'5", he has the frame to potentially make an impact in training camp and earn a shot at making Carolina's 53-man roster. If his workout goes well with the Panthers, Butler could give himself another chance to possibly return to the NFL.
    • They have all the rookies. The DC game has Ron though. With the new QB. It is weird.  pantherclaw, Bryce sort of is what he is, and in Madden he makes throws the real Bryce can’t make. Here and there. He ain’t ain’t a top QB in Madden though, lots of picks. aone of them lol was the throw that scares the hell out of me when he throws it, out to the boundary... quack quack.
