Colin Jones>>>>Naka on special teams

possibly, though they needed both last year.  Maybe if Robert Lester or Russell, or someone else can really show up, great.  But the staff is looking at it objectively.  They played Nakamura more snaps than any other player once he'd gotten hurt.

Does anybody else feel weird saying that out loud, after the last couple of years? LOL!

Wilks is a good coach.  McDermott has done great things with secondary, too.  They've got only a modest amount of talent to work with, but I like what they're doing.

That said, that was with a modest amount of Cutler and no Brandon Marshall.

I do believe they have a plan to build the nucleus of the defense this season and then add whatever may stll be lacking next season. They need to sign Hardy and then depending on our linebacker health take it from there. Truth is I will be happy with a winning season this year and then kick ass and take names in 2014 and on. think to have loftier expectations this year is unrealiatic with our schedule and conference.

I'm not....you aren't.

Well I do know that I am athletic enough to swat a football down and stop the Falcons from coming in the last few seconds of the game rather than trying to pick it and then pack pedal, lose my balance, and fall on my butt. But hey that just me being a 20 year old college athlete noticing a crappy athletic performance....

This gave me a good laugh. Naka is a better athlete and football player than you. That's why he's making a million dollars this year playing for an nfl team and you aren't.

I never said I was a better football player and as a matter of fact I did play professional baseball. All I am saying is Nakamura shouldnt be a starter because he isnt good enough and that one distinctive play showed it.

laugh all you want bud HAHAHAHAHAHA sheesh

No, you just claimed you would have played better than him during that play. You have no idea what you're talking about. In hindsight we could say a lot of things he shouldn't have done.

Should he be a starter? Nope. Is he horrible depth or special teamer? Also nope.

Well you know....I don't like him and I think he's garbage so.....

I am glad to see a thread about him since he played very well with a very nice tackle on Hester.

That tackle on Hester was pretty impressive.  fought through a block and dropped him like it was nothing.  He then caused and recovered a fumble in the red zone.  Nakamura recently said something like, "Everybody knows I am good on special teams..." If that is to suggest he is not competing for a starting position, then he is in competition with Jones, not Russell, which is dumb because neither may make it.  Just my twisted perspective.

This is an interesting battle.  While some may compare our experiences and abilities to what these fellows go through, it is doubtful any of us have ever had to endure this degree of competition.

    • While I have a chance to be overly excited I'll take that opportunity. The team will determine what happens with that. It's been a while since we've had much to be excited about, I'd say let's just embrace it and see how it unfolds.
    • Knowns: top 10 o line 2 proven, quality RBs 2 proven, WRs who get open and catch everything. 2 others who show a lot of ‘potential’ A QB who improved greatly in the last few games of the season, topped off by putting up a 40 burger win in OT in this franchise’s kryptonite house. What will transpire this season is yet to be seen.  defense has far less proven. 2  very good CBs, a stud DT (coming off a major injury) and the rest is, again, ‘potential.’ A DC that is essentially starting the season on the hot seat.  This is not 2003, but it could be good. 2003 was the most stacked roster from top to bottom that this team has ever had. This squad finished on a big upswing, yes, but we’ll see.  I think it all comes down to how spiked your hopium is. The running game is where it is for the team. This is not a defense that will win 3 points games. Just not. To win, this team will have to dominate TOP and come up with 2+ more 3rd down stops each game. Again, do-able and should be good for at least a 7 point differential in our favor, ‘hopefully.’  I will say that it is nice seeing talent that actually belongs in the NFL on our roster.
    • Say what you want, but last year Bryce gave Carolina the best QB-play we've seen a very long time. A very long time. Often with rookies at WR and TE, and a RB not known for his receiving abilities. There is much reason for optimism with added weapons, and consistency/ chemistry on the offensive line and coaching staff. Now if the defense can get to average instead of a heaping lump of dog doo, this team should win a lot more games. This season is a turn the corner season. Next season is the year to press the accelerator to the floor.
