Gettle can't really be this oblivious, could he?

I personally think he is tanking the season so he can get rid of Rivera and bring in his coach and secure another high draft pick.  Then it will officially be his team.

The above comment is hyperbole and is intended to incite the Chicken Littles  among us.  Watch someone take this literal and blast me.  3...2...1...

Why do you think this?

I never compared Cam Newton to Jamarcus Russell. I compared an attribute of Jamarcus Russell to that of Cam Newton. That attribute is simply accuracy. Since I was not around when Brett Favre had just entered the league, I have no frame of reference to compare the two, but I was around when Russell was, and it is an apt comparison. Cam has missed so many throws that it gets me very concerned, if this was a new issue I would chalk it up to the preseason. But it repeatedly returns year after year, at no point did I say he could not improve to become the type of quarterback that could take us to the playoffs and potentially to the Superbowl. Some people blew my statement way out of proportion.

Dude, Jamarcus Russell's qb accuracy his first two years were 54.5% and 53.8% respectively. Cam Newton's stats his first two years were 60.0% and 57.7% respectively. In no way are they similar. Guess what? Qbs miss throws all the time but obviously your mind is not right because you are mis-remembering just how bad jamarcus russell was compared to cam.

Remember when Green Bay fans would cheer for Favre throwing the ball away?

yeah. he scared people to death.

just looked at his second year as a starter stats and compared them with cam...

favre: 19 TDs to 24 INTs

cam: 19 TDs to 12 INTs

favre's QB rating went down from 85.3 to 72.2 his frist two years while cam's went from84.5 to 86.2.

his team went from 8-8 his first year to 9-7 his second year. cam's went from 6-10 to 7-9. just one game improvement from the year before.

aside from his team not having a losing record both years, if you were to compare the two you'd have to put cam as on the better track. one thing that favre has that cam didn't have was more 4th quarter comebacks...favre had 7 his first two years and cam has only had two. if you take away the dumb stuff that rivera did management-wise and the defense giving away leads at the end of the game, i think their 4th quarter comebacks would have been closer and cam would have had a higher win total.

I have faith in Gettleman, he has done nothing but good since being hired. Got us around 13 million above the cap and even told Cam it's time for him to win. I have liked all his moves thus far, but we will see...

That comment about its time to win was taken out of context. He was saying he's set records and raised the bar on performance and other guys are stepping up, so now is the time for the panthers to win. It was optimistic, not demanding like it was made out to be.

Hate our beat writer for basically adding to his portfolio of sensationalism for when he applies to ESPN. Dickhead he is.

We need Wharton more than he needs us. Pay that man. This is where Gmans ego pisses me off. Sometimes you just have to write a check. Our line is poo and other lineman know it. We have no leverage. I don't care what you say about Wharton he's damn sure better than what we have.

I honestly don't think Gman is all in. He's doing just enough to maybe win some games but this roster has blow it up written all over it. 1 year deals everywhere.

Ya gotta be pretty clueless to think any NFL QB would be that stupid. If you're not one of the best, then tanking it means you're in danger of losing your job. If you are one of the best, it'll be obvious you're trying to sabotage your team and nobody will want you behind center.

As for Gettleman, he's not a magician. You can't upgrade every area of the team overnight.

Newton is nothing like JaMarcus Russell.

He's a lot like a young Brett Favre.

folks these days forget there was a time when people weren't sure if Favre was going to be a quality starter. He needed some improvement, and he got it. No reason why Newton can't do the same.

I thought Jimmy was a lot like Favre. Turns out I'm wrong.

This is what I was talking about in the other thread.  You want Hurney back basically, cause he was the one who like to pay old injury prone players to come in and waste money.  Wharton couldn't even get healthy enough to play in Bengals camp.  They need o-line help too, but cut him.  As for one year deals, the only people who have them are people who need to prove themselves.
