Panthers have toughest 2013 schedule

Broncos are in one of the weakest divisions in the league.  Panthers are in one of the strongest.  We play 2 of the toughest divisions in the NFL with the NFC West and South.  When you look at playing only 7 games with above .500 records and only 6 games that were in the playoffs last year, it doesn't look that daunting.  Look at the Lions.  They play 12 games vs. teams that were above .500 last season.  That seem way, way tougher than our schedule.

 

Opponents' winning percentage really is a misleading way to calculate strength of schedule.  THere are always a number of teams that tank and underperform.  There are some that overachieve.

 

The things that's so difficult about our schedule is having the bye in week 4, the fact that we travel to AZ after our bye while we play 3 teams (including SF and NE) coming off of their bye weeks.  And the fact that we really don't have any long stints at home but basically bounce between home and away all season.

 

Timing is what makes our schedule difficult, not necessarily how our opponents did last year.

Of all of the "predictive" metrics that people use to try and see the future this one has got to be the dumbest.

 

Not one of the 32 teams in the NFL is the same squad they were last year.  Not one game will be played under identical conditions to the ones played last year.  No group of coaches are going to call  the same game if they have a common opponent.

 

And for fug sake anyone who has followed the NFCS should be very familiar with the worst to first nature of the modern NFL.

 

Last years results are only slightly more illustrative of whats going to happen this season than Wednesdays powerball drawing tells us anything about Saturdays drawing.

Largely in part because the Falcons went 13-3 last season and were/are on both teams' schedules twice. Derp.

Within any given division there are only two games that each team plays that are different than the other teams in the division. (and of course the effect of you not playing yourself).
