On Finding Panthers Gear in Spartanburg

Recommended Posts

Visiting my folks for the week, I decided to try and find a nice Luke Kuechly jersey, or at least a nice polo with an updated logo. Figuring this to be the home of training camp, I looked forward to the selection I would find.

Ha. Good luck, bub.

Target - No Panthers gear, but an entire row dedicated to Clempson and Jadeveon Clowney.

Walmart - A handful of Panthers branded things like umbrellas and fold out chairs. More Jadeveon Clowney.

Costco - Nothing (not surprising)

Nike Outlet Store - Zippo. They actually had Tarheels shirts. TARHEELS!

Academy - A small section of jersey's (1, 34, and 89) for $100. Jadeveon Clowney, Jadeveon Clowney, Jadeveon Clowney

Now in Austin, a good 200 miles from Jerry World, you will find Cowboys jerseys everywhere, included Walgreens/CVS and the grocery stores. Say what you will about Cowgirls fans (and I can say worse than you), at least they support their team en masse.

Time to step up your game, Sparkle City.

What's worrisome to me is if it's this bad in Spartanburg, how bad is it in the rest of South Carolina? Anywhere outside of Charlotte really?

The Walmart in Shallotte doesn't carry any licensed sports apparel at all outside of fuging Hats.

Just to expand on that. I was a bar manager at a sports bar last summer that required sports jerseys as a uniform. I had to drive all the way to Wilmington (45minutes) to even find one. I eventually ordered a few 15 dollar "cheap high quality" jerseys so that I didn't ruin any good ones at work.

I am a little put out by both the scarcity and limited selection of jerseys available. If it isn't 1, 89, 34, 28, or 59, you're probably out of luck. Nike just doesn't seem to have any interest in making any of the others. I'd love to have a Hardy and a C. Johnson, but I guess I'll have to settle for the screen printed ones made up special at the team store if I get them.

A jersey. Are you kidding? In the Triangle trying to find a jersey is a hit-or-miss project.  The local Walmarts use to carry a few of the cheap, low quality jerseys, now all they have are a few fitted caps, a bag or two and coolers.  You may get lucky and find a couple of jerseys in Dicks or Kohls.  Target just doesn't carry Panthers jerseys or anything anymore.  Every once in a while I may see a Steve Smith jersey in T.J. Maxx, but that's about it.

Now, to be fair, Ross has odds and ends (never apparel), and T.J. Maxx carries Panthers T-shirts, hoodies, and other items from time to time, but I am lucky to find anything anywhere else.

Back in the day, there was way more stuff, so I assume that once the Panthers start winning, that more items will start spreading outside of Charlotte.

I've been searching for a Garth Gerhart jersey. You guessed it, nothing, notta, zippo, zilch.

Try this: the Walmart in Asheboro, NC has year round sections dedicated to Cowboys and Steelers merchandise. You can maybe find one or two Panthers t-shirts at the start of the season and that's it. I can buy Tony Romo jerseys all day, but God help me if I want a Newton jersey.

The local stores that specialize in selling jerseys are worse.

Damn that's such bullshit.

    • The #Panthers explored the possibility of adding Jaire Alexander, but there was never an offer made, a league source told @theobserver.   https://x.com/mike_e_kaye/status/1935436577649401872?s=46
    • Yes I agree, the future RT could easily be christ. When he shocking re-signed here for the cheap, he said part of the reason was the OL coaching staff.  I've already thought too much about 2026. The RT has all the options, including resigning Motown. I was never a big fan, but he's solid and peptides and stem cells can fix a gippy knee. If he makes it though this year and wants to return, why not for 2 years 16 million?? Or like you said give the job to Christ or draft your RT...... that I feel is the best current method. With both OGs in the 20 million per cap range and Icky......ooooooooooo boy he could be the first 30 million per OLmen in NFL history. That's a huge portion of cap space for the OL, which I agree with, but in order to offset those 20 and 30 million deals... you need cheap rookie contracts. (unless Motown would take a huge pay cut and whoever the C will be).  This is the deepest OL I can recall in Panthers history.  I believe Morgan should try and trade either Kingston or Zavala.  I didn't even talk about Yosh, Tarquin, or Walton. Yosh is same age as christ and why not him as RT after good swing tackle years? Tarquin is a UDFA on the prayer program, 150,000 in guarantees and why not him in 2026? Walton seems to be a OL coach favorite, he followed the Tampa Bay staff here after 2 years there and add in one year here, he's stuck around for some reason. I think they need to spend very light on RT and Panthers have lots of options, I love it.
    • That better not be the case. They need to be ready week 1. The easiest part if their schedule is the first few fames
