Just re-watched the game and these plays/penalties cost us the game

D Will's fumble couldn't have come at a worse time.  There was no way we could recover, make a defensive stop, and score a TD after that.  However, the Josh Thomas "touching" penalty on that punt was far worse in terms of momentum.  No loss really ever comes down to just one mistake.  But that mistake was absolutely crucial to Seattle getting back in the  game.  We could have at least held possession of the ball for 5 mins or so by running it, even if we didn't score.

Bottom line.  We had them right where we wanted them (they were who we thought they were...) and we let them get away.

This is definitely a better overall team that 2012 and 1 game does not a season make.  However, we need to be mentally tougher in the 4th quarter.  It would help if we could build a lead early in the game when our defense is fresh so that they can really T off on the opposing QB.

THe offense was efficient, but didn't have that killer instinct that winners need.

I know it's just semantics, but Sherman didnt cause the fumble on D Will. The other guy, Earl did.

I thought the punt was Ginns fault. You can see Thomas react late to Ginns poison call. When he does he slips and hits the punt with his feet.

After the punt Thomas makes two great tackles on two consecutive plays. He didnt stop playing after the punt fumble. He got burnt on the deep incompletion, but the TD was on Godfrey.

yeah the TD pass Thomas was in pretty damn good position.  The throw was in the best possible spot with no saftey help over the top

Your correct, I thought it was Sherman's hit that did it. Upon further review Sherman hit his elbow with his helmet and Thomas punched it out a second later.

Unfortunately, it was his assignment. He was the centerfielder on that play. You can't even see him on the replay because he was so far back at the snap. He had everything behind the CBs. He was playing a zone. Take a look at the replay and tell him which guy that went downfield was his man. From the replay, it looks like it was Norman covering Tate, Munnerlyn covering Williams, and Thomas covering Kearse. Luke had the middle of the field on intermediate throws. Godfrey had over the top help on any route his hash mark and over. He simply didn't get there.

That is the weakness of playing 3 deep.  Godfrey has to be over the top on both sides of the field.  It's very very hard to do.  That's why it's imperative that the CB gets a good jam.  It's not really anyone's fault per say.  It was good play by Seattle.  The other routes are designed to keep Godfrey near the middle so he can't catch up.  If that ball is a little higher or a little slower Godfrey gets there.

Agreed.

It looked like he almost slowed up at the very end before trying to make a play at the ball, too. Anyone else see that?

Sorry, but you are wrong.  Rivera even said that wasn't Godfrey's assignment.  It was 100% on Thomas.

On the punt flub, that was also on Thomas.  You ALWAYS have to be aware when you are on the return team.  Ginn called poison in plenty of time to get out of the way.  It was a short kick, so Ginn made the right call in telling his blockers to get out of the way.  Charging into a crowd to try and catch the punt would have been foolish in that situation.

Agree that mistakes happen and Thomas tried to get out of the way of the punt. Still if he keeps his feet he could have recovered it. As for the TD he doesn't have good man skills and let himself get beat deep which is a problem. Norman has closing speed and a long reach and Thomas doesn't. It was not Godfrey's mistake. With a single high safety the corner has primary responsibility. If we were playing cover 2 then he could expect help deep.
