I keep hearing how Obama is doing wonders for health care but, I got cut from medicaid today. I don't even know how I got dropped. I make approximately 0 dollars and I'm nearly eligible for disability. This blame Pat McCrory for this wrong doing.

But in all seriousness anyone else think this state and health care in general is going to poo?

Yet a 28 year-old high school drop out junkie who has 14 kids gets medicaid and all kinds of assistance so she can get herself a new smart phone with the money she got at McDonald's.

I seriously don't understand it.. I think if I had a few kids and went to jail once or twice the government would be more open to helping me out with health care or something..

"North Carolina is one of 14 states with governors who have said their states will opt out of the Medicaid expansion provision of the Affordable Care Act."

http://www.wral.com/loss-of-medicaid-funding-hitting-nc-group-homes-residents/12446327/

"Thousands of disabled and elderly people across North Carolina remain in Medicaid limbo as assisted living facilities and groups homes scramble to deal with mandated service cuts."

McCrory has decided North Carolina will not participate in medicaid expansion, which basically whacks the federal portion of assistance provided to those states who went with the expansion.

Well that pretty much explains it.

Your situation doesn't sound good, and I feel for you, but I'm curious, how did you use it?

A hospital can't turn you away right?

I need a little more info here.

I used it to go to the doctor, but only when I really need to go. I went to the hospital every now and then when I'd hurt myself. I'm a very accident prone person, on top of that I feel like I'm always getting sick with some random thing.

I'm not going to die without it or anything. Many people need it more than me. I just can't understand how I got dropped.

Take care of yourself man, I'm sure it will work out.

Medicaid is designed for families with kids whose parents are under the poverty line.  It is also used to help folks who are disabled, lost their jobs or for temporary emergency situations.

It is not designed for single working people, college students or folks who can't or don't work unless they stay home because of kids.

Does it get abused by people? yes.  Do people lie about their income, use it inappropriately and take advantage of the system?  Absolutely.  But it is not designed to provide healthcare to everyone.

Medicaid takes up more of the state budget than most other things besides education.

If you get cut off sometimes it is due to the fact that you didn't send in the paperwork to get reinstated.  Sometimes the situation that you got medicaid initially changed and you are no longer eligible. When I first started out, the reason I sometimes worked in crappy jobs with long hours for not that great pay was for the health benefits. As a college student I went to school full time and worked a full time job because of the benefits and need for money.

    • Good thought and I agree.  Nothing about this process compromises that premise. In fact, the process involves meeting more needs so you can do that.  If I can get an Edge on a rookie contract when my biggest need is LB, then I have enough $$ saved on the overall cap to get an elite rookie edge in the draft and sign a veteran LB in free agency. If I draft the LB first, my biggest need, then my savings against the cap (when looking at the 53-man roster) is minimal.  I have not saved enough $$ to sign the edge in free agency, so I have to try to draft the edge later, getting a lesser player.  Even if you draft an edge and the roster is full of them, you have trade capital because a lot of teams need a good edge.  This lends credence to the BPA theory if it is aligned with positions that are expensive on second contracts. In the cap era, you have to think it through-it is like a puzzle.   That is why I did not like it when Marty was drafting RBs (Willliams and Stewart) in the first round.  If you recall, that necessitated moving up for Otah, trading away next year's first rounder to do so.  That is the draft we really needed an edge, but since we did not have a first rounder, we took Everette Brown to fill that need.  Then it got worse.  We had 2 RBs on second contracts, Brown busted, that led to drafting Clausen, etc.  If you can get 2 starters for the price of one, that is what I would call smart--not overthinking, if I understand you.  I do agree, but that does not mean draft your trench players first.   It could mean draft an edge and use the cap savings to sign a trench player.
    • The DLine needs to do its job too - currently I only trust Brown to do that.
