Hey Offense, You're Up

Rivera spent time building up the Defense and Hurney and Gettleman helped him out with their drafting. Now that the defense can't close out a game everyone wants the offense to save them.

Maybe if you would have gotten Cam some damn help they wouldn't be in that situation. I hate to pull the Hopkins card because Star has played so well but damnit he ain't looking to bad over there himself.

I don't expect poo from this offense to be honest with you. They ignored the offensive line all season. Hyped up Armanti Edwards and brought in Hixon to be the 3rd WR and all both of them do is stand on the sideline. We don't have another legitimate receiving te. Lafell is so bad that a washed up Ginn has outshined him.

So you got a young qb with a staff that doesn't know how to use him or develop him.

A suspect offensive line

A 5'9 34 year old wr is your best option in the passing game and by the way he had a first down drop against the bills in case you missed it.

No Jonathan Stewart or Barner so no Zod they aren't at full strength.

Mike Shula is the Oc and fuging Ken Dorsey is your qb coach.

The first top three picks of the last two years were all defense.

The offense should not be expected to win a shoot out or win games for this team because nothing was done to make that happen.

I just want to know who we are and what to expect. Are we going to pound out victories on the ground or are we going to chuck the ball down field just hoping one or two long TD catches are made?

I can't believe that after three years we still don't have an identity. We don't know who we are.

Sometimes I feel like this coaching staff is like some of us fans, if we lose they are like "Change everything!!!!"

And I understand why. Last year they waited to long to make adjustments and it cost us so now they are in total helter skelter mode.

It sucks.

Its the offense's turn to step up and control a a game.

Why should they be expected to control a game when this team was built for the defense to control it? You seen how easily the offense moved the ball when they increased the tempo.

Why don't they do it all the time? Because Rivera wants a slow defense controlled game. That's on the head coach. If that's what he wants than the defense can't give up the game at the end

we do have an identity. its what we saw this past sunday.

this team is that team that will have a lead in the fourth and then make possible a great comeback for the other team giving them and their fans probably the most memorable win in years and the shot of confidence they need to go forward.

that's who this team is.  we gift wrap exciting wins for other teams.

I know. :(

I mean on offense specifically. Against Seattle we probably didn't take enough shots down field, media gets on the coaches a little for being to conservative

So then they were like "okay then, let's never get under center and only throw down field"

Just figure out who we want to be and be the best at it we can be

There is a lot of truth here.

Gettleman/Rivera chose to load up on the defensive side of the ball in the draft. That is the side with the better coaches. So why should we necessarily expect the offense to bail out the defense?

    • He makes a good point about Wallace.  In fairness to Wallace it is hard to play your position as freely as you need to when your defensive line is getting pushed around like ragdolls.  One of the greatest attributes a defensive line has is sucking up blocks, freeing up your linebackers.  Our defensive line couldn't suck up a lollipop more or less blocks.  I think Evans, Sanders and Tremble are going to be a really nice TE group.  I can see all three getting time on the field.  If Sanders can improve as a blocker teams won't be so inclined to believe it is a pass play whenever Sanders is on the field.  Ryan Fitzgerald, I think was an awesome pick-up. Hopefully he can fill our kicker void. Luke Kandra many turn out to be our next Norwell.  Everything I have heard about him says he's a beast.  He needs some refinement, but the good news is he's got Hunt and Lewis (arguably the best guard tandem in the league) to learn from.
    • Great teams build through the draft and have several young players that start that are on rookie contracts. It's important to hit on players in rounds 4 thru 7.  These should be future starters and solid depth.  When you hit on most of your picks you free up a lot of cap space for those one- or two-year players to fill spots you are thin at. No GM is going to perfect on all their picks.  You're going to whiff every once in a while.  That was Hurney problem.  He'd nail the first pick but after that it was reach after reach and we couldn't get any depth on this team. I'm excited about Morgan as our GM and hopefully he'll be around a long time.  It will be even better if Canales can continue to grow as a head coach, both in the development of young players and play calling. I remember last season after Young came back in the lineup and started to perform well.  We saw different plays I had only seen other teams use.   If Canales's play design and play calling continue to grow. Morgan and Canales will be linked together for a long time.  It would be nice to see a Coach and GM together for a decade or two. Go Panthers
    • They also came out for the encore and the singers were dressed in canes jerseys. Pretty fuging cool.
