Jim Miller and Pat Kirwan on Cam

Recommended Posts

Cam was throwing off his back foot a lot in that game but pressure created by our offensive line caused some of it.

He throws off his back foot even when not pressured and holds the ball to the last minute where he has no choice but to throw off his back foot.  Sure some of those sacks were on the O line and Bell for sure but he holds it longer than any other QB in the league.

4.5 sacks by one guy alone. that = offensive line problems. cam has his share of things to work on but let's not pretend he's the only factor here. he is under constant pressure to make plays downfield erstwhile avoiding defensive ends crashing in on our JV offensive line, and that's going to mean he takes some chances ripping passes out without setting his feet. he may not get another chance otherwise.

I know everyone was wanting to know what yasuhara's opinion about Cam is so here it goes. This is going to blow everybody's mind!

Ok so here it goes:

While the team is struggling to win tight games, Cam Newton's flaws are getting more apparent. Accuracy is an issue, stepping into his throws never seems to happen. But what has happened? Did Cam all of a sudden forget how to throw? Is his confidence shot?

First off, my take just on observing every game but not ever studying "game film" is that we do not run things that are advantageous to Cam.

Double TE threat! Olsen and Shockey were amazing. Olsen 45 catches and 5 tds and Shockey with 37 catches and 4 tds. So our TEs had 82 catches and 9 tds in 2011. So what do we do get? Get rid of Shockey and do not replace him. Now we have an inactive replacement but Williams is such a liability in the run game that the coaches seem to be too reluctant to use him.

I-Formation play-action pass. Cam used to throw the deep our our TE corner perfectly. I do not remember in the past two games one time when he has attempted a deep out.

Cam Running! He needs to be a run threat to open the pass. We need to run and show success for Cam to be successful!

So while Cam is mechanically sucking right now I truly feel that the main problem is that we are not giving him a chance to be successful.

True.

Not entirely. It's a fact that mobile qbs hold on to the ball longer because of their ability to buy time. A normal qb on our team would be sacked a lot more. Holding on to the ball isn't always on the qb. If there is nowhere to go with the football(as it is often pointed out during panthers games) you can't force it.

All young qbs hold on to the ball too long but our wrs don't help. Other than Steve Smith we don't have anyone on the team that attacks the ball. They sit and wait for it to fall in their lap.

very true. how many times was cam newton hit or sacked or hurried last year?

what i would like people to do is this simple equation. count all cams overthrows and misses minus wr drops and sacks and where the oline is pushed into his lap. most would fine he isnt as bad as people make him out to be.

I agree with you. I never understood why we got rid of the 2 Te sets. Those worked wonders that year. I makes you wonder what goes on with this staff. Why go away from what was working?

Cam will get better. Those issues can be fixed. We just need to take more advantage of his skills. Next draft/free agency, they need to give this kid some weapons and protection.

I'm sick and tired of seeing a 3rd year starting QB in Cam still having trouble with the little things: technique, form, reading defense, vision, footwork, etc. FIRE these damn coaches!!!

All we do is fire coaches.

If we spent some real money hiring qualified guys who know what the hell they're doing and have actually had success and not been fired everywhere then we wouldn't have to hire and fire all these people every other year.
