When a team can win 11 games and not make it, but a team that wins 7 games can, there is a problem.

I named the teams which will easily be in the 10 win range: Packers, Bears, Lions, 49ers, Falcons, Saints. 10 didn't get the Bears there last year. You say the NFC is weak, but not at the top. There are several 10 win teams

Well if 10 wins can't make the playoffs according to OP, then I think we should throw the season this year and the next so we can get Clowney and Sanders..

10 is usually enough....but how you get your 10 matter.
