PFF's Panthers - Cardinals Refocused

Some interesting tidbits

Short is also working to outshine the fellow rookie DT with the bigger brand name that lines up next to him. His +3.4 overall grade against Arizona – his third straight grade in the green – should help.

Ben Hartsock’s role was largely as a run blocker, as per usual, and it was his grade in that area (+2.0) that sees him land this spot. Handling business on the end of the line with a handful of solid kick-outs and inside seals — primarily against the Arizona linebackers — the only down note in his performance was a special teams holding penalty at the end of the half that turned a 41-yard field goal attempt into a 51-yarder (that Graham Gano promptly nailed anyway.)

Two of those plays – the two sacks – were particularly worth watching as he came nearly obstacle-free on both, setting aside center Ryan Kalil for a safety (2Q 5:33), and right tackle Byron Bell for a sack-fumble late in the fourth (4Q 2:48).

those delayed blitzes were killing us, but they were doing it all game.  one of the mlb had a sack and ran right by Wharton who was blocking nobody, at some point, these have to be recognized.  oh, the one time we did call a hot route, what did Washington do?  Of course he dropped in coverage and picked off the slant.  they did very well in their scheme and disguising the blitzes.  By the fourth quarter though, there should be at least one short route every pass in case they do blitz, I can't confirm either way.  Cam should never get sacked 7 times with his mobility.

    • I think where they would be picked if redrafted before both classes have played enough football to really tell.  Baker literally looked like a washout with us after Cleveland gave up on him, then turned world beater with the Rams, got a prove it deal with the Bucs and has looked awesome ever since. Asking where Ward would’ve went had he went in ‘24 is just stupid.  I’m no GM, but I wouldn’t have taken Williams #1 either.  I would’ve taken Joe Milton way higher than he went.  I think Shadeur should’ve been a first round pick this year.  Point being, opinions are like buttholes, everybody has one.  It’s my opinion that Ward has that “something special.”  I get that feeling that he’ll be an even better pro than he was a collegiate QB because of whatever that quality is.  I think he’s gonna surprise a lot of people, especially being such an under appreciated first overall pick.
    • Where do we get our T-shirts and hats? Pretty sure this is the first championship ever in professional basketball or football in Charlotte!
    • Nice turnaround for Kon.  I’m still a little worried about his ability to create for himself and others, but it was SL.  Come regular season, he will playing a much different role and shots will be there for him.  He showed some reason for hope - and not just him, but the whole squad.  I suppose for the first time ever, we have drafted and acquired enough young talent that we actually not only competed for once, but won the whole thing in summer league.     Kon, Simpson, and Sims made all the difference.  Almost every year prior I felt we always struggled because we usually didn’t have a floor general/real PG to get us into offense.  This was such a breath of fresh air.  And look at us!  We finally are champions!😂
