What do you think the Big JR is saying about the state of his franchise?

JR: Let's see...I led the effort to put the squeeze on players during the last CBA negotiations, and that worked out well. Then I was a big part of the effort to hold down the pay and benefits for officials, and that turned out pretty good too. But I feel like I have been neglecting my own team in the process, so I better put in some work on that. Hmmm....

After a few minutes of deep thought...

JR: Danny. Get in here!

DM: Yes boss?

JR: I was reading how Andrew Luck donated some money to Stanford with the stipulation that the OC position would then be called the Andrew Luck Offensive Coordinator, and it got me to thinking. How much do you think we could get if we sold naming rights to our 3 coordinator positions?

DM: I don't know Jerry, but I'll do some research on it.

JR: Do that. I'll check with you tomorrow. I gotta get out of here now. Me and the missus are off to the early bird special at Morrison's cafeteria. Putting in a hard day's work on your team really makes a guy hungry!

He's turned a profit for 18 years.  He's had a winning season 4 times.  That should tell you all you need to know.  You can't really blame a businessman for paying attention to the bottom line.  However, it is frustrating that he seems to favor profits over winning (or even fairness in terms of the CBA and refs, etc.).

If you were the man in the luxury box, you might not give a fug about the little guy either.  Where would that get you?  JR is afraid that it would lose him money.  That's his prerogative.  It's his money and this is a capitalist society.

When you consider that every PSL owner is like an investor and that its the CEO's job to make sure investors get a return on their investment...then the whole business model kind of breaks down.  If entertainment is the return you want (especially in terms of deep playoff runs and Superbowl appearances) then he isn't delivering.

One more thing:  Losing can actually still be entertaining.  Just look at how traffic on this board picks up the worse this team looks.  Tragedy is just as entertaining as comedy.  In any given game, somebody has to lose...it's just usually us.  Fans are still a part of the drama.  JR knows this and that is why he runs his business the way he does.  If you don't like it, you don't have to watch.
