Im not quite sold on the idea we need a offensive mind for our next HC.

My whole point about this is that we need the right mind. Doesn't necessarily have to be an offensive coach, it could be a former HC, or a DC. But when you limit your pool of candidates to pro defensive coordinators, like we did last time, all you end up with is a guy that got passed over, what, like 12 times, and this is why. Poor game management, inability to close out in the 4th, not knowing when to call a timeout, stagnation on offense, slow starts every season, etc.

Coaches? We don't need new coaches. We need a new quarterback. Cam sucks. I can't believe this team wasted a #1 draft pick on him, especially when we could have drafted an o-lineman or placekicker or something. Hell, Scam shouldn't have been anywhere in the first round much less at #1. He has been given all the weapons he needs. Five offensive linemen, a stable of speedy all-pro level wideouts, a superb OC who bases his entire gameplan around Cam's abilities (or disabilities) and a Superbowl winning HC. Scam is the odd man out here. He has a chicken wing for a arm, the vision of a bat, the legs of a sloth and the brains of a jellyfish. I would trade Scam for Blame Gabbert straight up.

I don't believe it really matters if the next Head Coach is offensive or defensive minded as long as that person has a great football mind.

I can't recall the last time a Carolina Head Coach out-coached another team, yet our team seems to get out-coached on a regular basis.

So here is a good description of the man we should be looking for to become Carolina's next Head Coach.

In the famous words of Bum Phillips:  "He can take his'n and beat your'n and take your'n and beat his'n."

It doesnt matter if the coach is O or D minded. Unless ovcourse they are gonna be calling plays on Sundays.

For a HC all I care about is

1) Ability to gameplan

2) Ability to manage a game and make adjustments

3) Ability to lead, manage, and motivate players

4) Ability to bring in good-great O and D coordinators

Huddlers overlook the importance of #4

I don't see much of a difference. A good DC understands all the ins and outs of many offenses. Their job is to know what the offense is doing and to shut it down.

Same with an OC. Our D looked like crap against the Bills because Hackett knew exactly what our D was doing.

That being said, defensive minded coaches probably believe aggressive offenses make more mistakes while a conservative offense wears down the opponents, lessens turnovers and is generally harder to stop.

Offensive minded coaches, off the top of my head, seem to have decent defenses at the moment. Not a large enough sample size to make a generalized statement. (Coughlin is obviously the biggest exception, but generally his Giants and Jags defenses have been very good)
